R19 to Le Mans 2014

Hello All

Colin and I have only just returned from the Le Mans 24hr (absolutely fantastic, I can see why people go every year and I'd be happy to bore you all senseless next time I see you) but already thoughts are turning to 2014 because the campsites sell out so quickly.

2014 is a difficult choice because Porsche will be returning to the top class of the 24hr for the first time in years but 2014 is also a Classic year (Classic Le Mans is every two years) and I know a number of people have already expressed interest in the 2014 Classic.

On balance I think I am more likely to go to the Classic next year and camping pitches are already being reserved at the excellent campsite we have used previously. The prices are not available yet but the travel operator is taking provisional bookings at the moment, just by taking names, and I am thinking of booking a pitch.

Is anyone else interested? Obviously I don't want to reserve pitches for each individual, it would be one pitch per car (typically with two to four people per car) so people will need to co-ordinate in groups of two or more to reserve a pitch. The price per head reduces the more you have in a car obviously but you can't have so many people that you need more than one camping pitch. Four would be the maximum I think.

The Classic price in 2012 was approximately £300 per head based on two people in a car. This covers Eurotunnel tickets, general circuit and paddock entry and campsite fees. So beer, food and petrol are on top. In the past we have taken a gazebo and gas burners and cooked a lot of our food ourselves which is very sociable.

We don't have to pay any money yet so reserving a pitch and pulling out before the deposit is due (probably November) will not be a problem.

Just let me know

James, I know that Lycian are hoping to have the Village on the Curves for the Classic next year as well as for the "normal" 24 hour race - you may wish to ask Stephen and Joy! We went to the 24 hours 2 years ago - first time ever - and their site was superb, I've been bugging Stephen ever since to do the same for the Classic. Wife and I want to do the Classic rather than the 24 hour, and 2014 will hopefully be the year we do.

Hi Chris

Yep, I know. We were at The Village on the Curves only a few days ago. It was excellent, well run, very friendly, clean and secure and we had a great time. I spoke to Joy about their plans for the Classic while I was on site.
But for my money the Travel Destinations site at Tertre Rouge is better located, particularly for the Classic when there is so much to see on the relatively short walk from Tertre Rouge to the paddock. Plus you have the Tertre Rouge bar and the tram station both within a few hundred yards of the campsite. I can see me doing Tertre Rouge for the classic and Village on the Curves for the 24hr if I keep going to both.

All just my opinion obviously.

Just a brief note to say that R19 has a growing group (seven so far) booking for the Classic Le Mans event in 2014. We've been twice before as a group and it is one of the best events around.

The dates are 4th to 7th July. Travelling by car and Eurotunnel with three nights camping at a very good, secure, trackside campsite that we have used before.

If anyone else is interested and would like more info, please drop me a line or talk to me at The Novello.

Cheers

James
