Unfortunately in my haste I made a mistake on uploading our file for this month's Porsche Post and by accident included our file from last November, with the correct image for this year. Apologies to anyone who was confused and I attach the correct update below.

Club Nights (Held on the first Tuesday of each month at the Rose and Crown, Hawridge)

Our September club night was a social evening and again we were lucky and had weather that we was relatively kind. It was good to see some new members join us for that evening amongst a total group of about 30 people.

We have invited Alan Goddard from the CSMA club along to our November evening to talk to us about a possible long weekend in France early next year as a R21 2014 WOTY (Weekend of the Year). After our weekend in Symonds Yat this year we have been discussing options for next year and a number of people have expressed interest in going to France. A number of us have got to know Alan at various CSMA events and he offered to help us organise a French break. Alan has many years experience in organising motoring tours and knows the Normandy area very well and this will be a great opportunity to find out more about our plans for next year.

Kop Hill Climb 2014
Although we did not attend this event as a region this year a number of our members went along including Andy Graham who participated with his GT3. He was part of the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire's team who were raising money for The Princes Centre in Princes Risborough. In 2012 Andy had participated, in a Ford Escort Mexico, in the Friendship Rally of the Andes. This was a 10,000 mile classic rally in South America and the route included driving the length of the Andes from the Caribbean coast to Tierra del Fuego, which the High Sheriff also entered in his Jaguar XK150. Rides up the hill in a number of cars including the XK150 and Andy's GT3 were auctioned to raise more money for the Charity.

New Year Dinner 2014
We have negotiated an updated price for our New Years Meal which now includes a Disco. We have had a good response to our initial advertising and it is great to see enough people have paid for us to be able to commit to the event, which will be held on Saturday 11th January at the Noke Hotel Watford Road St Albans. We have secured a good package which includes a three course meal for only £25 per head. We have been to this venue for the last couple of years and they have looked after us very well so we are happy to return for a third year.
We need payment in advance so please send cheques payable to Porsche Club GB to Ashley Miller, Woodleigh, Drakes Drive, Northwood, Middx, HA6 2SL.

If you wish to stay over, hotel rooms are available at £65.00 per room per night for a standard double, single or twin bedded room, including full English breakfast. Please quote the special code PORS110114 when booking directly with the hotel to benefit from this offer. The hotel number is 0871 376 9034.

Karting

Round 8 of our 2013 Karting events took place on a distinctly soggy Friday evening of 13th September at Rye House near Hoddesdon, 18 drivers took part, at Rye House we have a practice followed by two 30 minute races with the final result determined by combining the results of the two races together, grid positions were allocated by random draw. After a briefing, equipped with wet weather gear and resembling a group of Michelin men, we set off in our allocated karts for a 15 min practice session. The combination of standing water and slicks added a bit more excitement into the mix, it was soaking and before very long so were the drivers!
Race 1 - We persuaded the track to let us have a rolling start, and this saw Antonio Caccioli, who had drawn pole for race 1, take the lead from the start never to be seen again. James Ockenden, starting in tenth, worked his way up through the field, while Andrew Tempest maintained a steady second. Third place had become a battle between returner Jon Luic, James Ockenden and Gary Martin, who was relishing the conditions. Gary had the best pace of the three, however James managed to pip third at the end, with Jon Luic fourth and Gary fifth.
Into race 2 the conditions remained distinctly challenging. James Ockenden made a good start managing to take the lead after a few laps never to be troubled again. Jon Luic was having a great race, coming from 15th all the way up to second. Gary Martin who was revelling in the conditions was in combat with Dave Benns, but Dave managed to hold onto third to round out the top 3. Fastest lap of the evening went to James Ockenden with a 54.88 second lap.
The combined results of the two races meant that the winner was James Ockenden, with joint second place going to Jon Luic and Antonio Caccioli. Considering the awful conditions, everyone seemed in high spirits - this was certainly no race for wimps and, as usual, the events of both races were debated over an enjoyable after-race curry.
After 8 races of the Drivers Championship, James Ockenden has consolidated his position in top place just 9 points ahead of Ashley Miller in second with 95 points, third is Gary Martin with 93 points and is now 10 points clear of 4th placed Andrew Tempest.
