R30 South to North run

This was the first run out for R30 in 2012. We met at the Cregneash car park at 1.30pm on Sunday and although it was misty in places we had a fine day. Ian and Shelagh had the roof down on their boxter as usual. I must ask them if they will let me see it up one time just to check it works, it was too cold to be roofless surely! [;)]

There were 5 Porsches and crews arrived within a few minutes of each other, with another to meet up with us just after Ballaugh Bridge apparently. The route was to drive to Castletown and then up the Ballamodha Straight, joining the TT course at Ballacraine Corner. Then head to Ramsey and the Milntown Estate for afternoon Tea / Coffee & Cake. New member James met us at Ballaugh in his White 997 GT3, a beautiful machine.
We had a pretty good run, and had a couple of chances to hear a bit of Porsche noise but caught up to traffic eventually. We arrived still all together though, which was nice. The Estate Gardens were open, but we just enjoyed the food and drink too much to bother.

When we were leaving Julian got permission to park outside the house for a photo, which was nice. I know you guys in the UK would have been parked outside much larger premises such as Longleat House or somewhere, but this is our Manx scaled down version. [:D] There are some photo's below:

Thanks to Julian for organising the event and to the staff there for the great food and drink.

Good pics Steve and looks like a nice run out.
Get some pics of the back next time so I can see the rising "heat hazes" from your engines[;)]

Ha, thanks Tim. I'll get accused of going all artistic if I do anything like that! [;)] I'll give it a go though, at least I can say you put me up to it.

Steve,
Milntown may be smaller than Longleat but is perfectly formed & I agree the cafe is extremely nice-is the car museum open yet?
We were over at our cottage in Laxey last weekend but in the BMW but busy preparing for the 2012 holiday season & if I had realised would have run out to say hello.
Where else in the UK could you have met up seconds from basking seals & a panoramic glazed cafe overlooking th Calf sound, then driven along a race circuit to another superb cafe in lovely gardens?

What a shame, you would have been very welcome to join us too. It might be an idea to PM either Julian or myself your email address and then you could be added to the email listing for our region. Most of the time, events are publicised on the forum too, but some do slip through.
I'm showing my ignorance here but I didn't even know there was a car museum at Milntown, I'll try and find out whether it's open or not. It's because I'm from the south of the Island, no idea what's going on up north! [;)]
Will you be bringing the Porsche over at any time? It would be nice to have a classic in amongst our current group of more modern cars.

Steve,
Will PM my e-mail address. As for the car museum, the owner of Milltown who gifted the estate to the trust apparently had an extensive car collection which is still on the estate & it is the intention to open a car museum there-I think it should have opened last year but didn't-how do I know? Sue Gower-Jackson who runs Trading Places with Andy-they own the Curiosity Shop in Laxey Village used to look after our cottage but then got the job of running the Milltown Estate initially part-time but I think her role has expanded somewhat.
Normally,we don't come in a Porsche as I usually bring tools, ladders & other maintenance kit just in case the cottage needs anything doing. We also get the Monday ferry home so miss being able to attend your meetings although a few years back I did come over on my own & attend a couple of meetings at the Colby Hotel.

Hi Colin, apparently the museum is by appointment only. We will have to put in a request. Julian has added you to the email circulation list too.
Steve
