New member
Dear all,
Look forward to seeing you all at the Bentley on the 4th. This Month, we will be having a presentation from Mark, one of the R4 members, on touring holidays and visits in Germany. We will be in the Gold room again and aim to start at around 1100 with Mark giving his presentation at 1145 after the usual Parish notices.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for events to attend over the winter and throughout next year, please bring as much info as you can.
If you are partaking of the Lunch, please drop me a line so I can book any extras on our table.
Regards
Gavin

Excellent presentation from Marc and Allison (R4 members) For those who attended, Richard and I are now looking to move this forward for the 2013 TOTY (Tour of the Year). Keep an eye out for e-mail and forum posts as we will only have 12 car spaces. We will not publish yet until all details are available as this will be 1st come basis with deposits req'd almost as soon as we post!

Everyone in R4 should have received an e-mail from Richard with a break down of the TOTY 2013 tour. If you did not get one or need to ask questions, contact either myself or Richard. Deposits (£215/car) are required by the Christmas function, if possible. I have managed to secure ferry travel at £150 less than the standard fare, again a £25 deposit is required soonest, balance to be paid 6 weeks before travel. Once we have had replies from R4 members, we will post on the forum for others to read and fill any available spaces. The aim of R4 is to make available 12 places on the tour, we can manage with any number between 9-14 Porsches. We will talk again about the tour at the Christmas Dinner. This will be an 1100 mile tour through Germany and Belgium over 6 days! Gavin

Hi everybody, Just had a call from Cliff who was enquiring if there were still places available on the Tour. I know that a number of you are taking your deposit cheques to the Christmas lunch which is fine, but it does leave us unable to know if we are over or undersubscribed. For those of you planning to take your cheque to Gavin at the Christmas dinner could I ask you to visit our website via the link below and complete the booking form. If you click the "pay by cheque" option and add "Christmas lunch" in the additional information box we will know that you are joining us on the trip and how many spaces we have left. For those of you that have already completed the booking form you do not need to do this again. http://europeandrivingtours.co.uk/pcgb-r4/dambusters-booking-page/ Gavin, if you could forward the detail from this post via email it may be useful. I will then update you with the numbers booked. Best wishes

If anyone from R4 would like to go on this tour but does not fancy putting extra mileage on thier Porsche. We have the option to take a support vehicle to carry excess baggage, tools, trolley jack etc. I am prepared to loan the Toyota previa to any member that wants to go along with option of 2-6 seats and 45mpg. We do need to know ASAP, who is interested in doing the tour! So far we only have 3 cars? If we do not get enough interest from R4, we will have to offer it to other regions/registers. This is a once in a lifetime tour, and on the 50th Anniversary of the 911 too! read the itinery here: http://europeandrivingtours.co.uk/pcgb-r4/ Regards Gavin

Booked today, bringing cheque on Sunday. Who else is going? Come on, this is going to be a very special break on the 50th anniversary of 911's and we're going to have a hoot!

5 with a possible 6th have booked so far for the Tour. This will now be offered out to other regions/registers to fill in the other places. If you still think you would like to go, let us know, we can try to reserve you a place (as we have done with one of our other members). Most days you will drive for 3-3 1/2 hrs, except the first day when we have a long 6hr day and the last day when we have no real driving unless you choose one of the options. so come along and book now!

Just PM'd Tom & Kerry in R8 to give their Region the first option of the remaining 6 places. We have 6 bookings confirmed with the hotels and a further 6 places currently being held for us. If anyone would like any further details please give me a call on either 01673 858620 or 07885 274113 Best wishes

Happy New Year to everybody, hope that your festive celebrations went well. Just an update on the TOTY, there are still 6 places available. It would be great to have a few more R4 members join us on this historic trip so please have a look at the Tour on the website www.europeandrivingtours.co.uk/pcgb-r4/ and hopefully be tempted to join us. We hope to have an advert in the February or March issue of Porsche Post so if you are interested please register your interest as soon as possible. Sadly we won't be at the bowling later this month but Richard has all the details, or alternatively if you have any questions please feel free to give us a call on 01673 858620 or 07885 274113.

Following the flyer posted along with Porsche Post this month, we have had serious enquiries from 8 persons. If anyone from R4 still want to go, you need to contact Mark with a deposit NOW!, before these other 8 confirm. Don't sit there in a Months time thinking I wish I had booked for the Dambuster's Tour, do it now!

We have just received a cancellation on this tour, so a place is now available. Cost £425 per person plus your chosen crossing( Hull or Eurotunnel) for the six day tour celebrating the 70th anniversary of the dams raid http://www.europeandrivingtours.co.uk/pcgb-r4/ for details.

Hi everyone, A quick update. All tour books are now completed (these will be issued at Scampton and Dover respectively) and routes uploaded to the Sat Navs so everything is good to go. We're getting quite excited about this ourselves; the 50th anniversary of the 911 (and the exhibition that we will see at the Porsche Museum), a trip round the Solitude circuit with a group of Porsches and visiting the dams on the 70th anniversary of the raid, this will certainly be a tour to remember[8D]. In the coming weeks we will start to post teasers from the daily summary and the points of interest that we will visit as we have done for the 997 register;[:)] http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=682987&mpage=9&key=%3F%3F This weekend we will email everyone already booked on the tour with the General Information document from the tour books. This gives information on what you need to take and how to get your pass to drive in Stuttgart. Sending this out now will hopefully give everyone time to get together the various bits and pieces needed.[8|] We still have a place left if anyone would like to join us. Crossings from Hull or Dover are still possible.

Just a thought,[8|]..if anyone would like to do any pre-tour reading, two books that I would thoroughly recommend are; The Dambusters - Paul Brickhill This is the "original" Dambusters book. I am lucky enough to have an original edition, courtesy of my father, but there are plenty of paperback reprints on Amazon. Dambusters Crash Sites - Chris Ward & Andreas Wachtel Chris is from Loughborough and has worked tirelessly to find the crash sites and in some cases recover effects and raise memorials. We have used the book extensively when putting this tour together. I think Gavin, you may already have this book?

Having spoken with RAF Scampton and the heritage centre today, I can confirm that for those going on the Tour; we have been granted photo opportunities on base and around guy Gibsons office. Moreover, we have been given access to Guy Gibsons office for a photo opportunity behind his desk. The heritage centre have agreed to open up and host us for this most prestigious occasion; on the 70th Anniversary of the Dams raid. I need to know, The car details, Model, Colour, reg No, Details of both occupants, Please have passports to hand, you should have as we depart straight for the Ferry after Scampton. We will all arrange to meet up 'Off base' and then to drive on in convoy. This saves difficulty and confusion at the Main Guardroom. Details and venue TBC. Visit starts at 1300, thats 1 0'Clock. Gavin

Fantastic news Gavin, that will be a great photo opportunity, what a way to start the tour[8D] Our details; Mark & Alison Andrews Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Aqua Blue M 888 POR Best wishes

Ok, so as we are just three weeks away from the "Dambusters 70th Anniversary PCGB R4 Tour of the Year"[8D] I will start to post some teasers from the roadbook. Those of you that are joining us on the tour, please don't print these off as it will all be included in your book when we hand them out either at Scampton or at Folkestone. Where better to begin than Day 1...[8|] Day 1 - Wednesday 24th July 2013 - Calais to Bad Durkheim - 425 miles total For those travelling on the Hull-Zeebrugge ferry you should disembark at 08.45. Once off the ship please load waymarker “wm01 Meeting Point (All) Shell Stn Day 1” into the Sat Nav and follow the directions to the meeting point which is a Shell filling station just south of Lissewege and less than 4 miles on the main road to Brugge out of Zeebrugge. We hope to all arrive at 09.00. For those using the Eurotunnel crossing we will meet at the Eurotunnel terminal at 05.30 to ensure check-in before the 05.50 deadline. The crossing departs at 06.20 (local UK time) and arrives in Calais at 07.55 (local French time). Departing the Eurotunnel terminal follow Sat Nav Route “13.07 Dams Day 1 Calais to Zeebrugge” - 75 miles - 1.25 hours. The route takes us to the meeting place via the French & Belgian motorways. Once we have the group together follow Sat Nav Route “13.07 Dams Day 1” - Zeebrugge to Monschau - 165 miles - 3 hours. We will follow the excellent free motorway network through Belgium and drive for approximately 2 hours to our first planned fuel stop on the motorway to the east of Liege. From here we will travel a further 35 miles to Monschau (see POI 01). We hope to arrive at around 12.30 and to stay until 13.45 to give us an opportunity for a stroll and to take lunch. Today is a big driving day so we must leave Monschau at 13.45 as we have another long stretch this afternoon. Leave Monschau at 13.45 and continue to follow Sat Nav Route “13.07 Dams Day 1” - Monschau to Bad Durkheim - 185 miles - 4 hours. We begin this afternoon travelling through some beautiful scenery in the Eifel mountains before a quick photo stop at the Nurburgring (see POI 02), then onto meet the Moselle river at Cochem (see POI 03) which we follow south for a while through the vineyards before cutting across country to join the motorway travelling south east through Germany. We have a planned fuel stop near Worms which will ensure we start tomorrow with full tanks. From here its less than 20 miles to our hotel for the next two nights (see Hotel Details Day 1 & 2) in Bad Durkheim (see POI 04). We hope to arrive at Bad Durkheim between 18.00 & 19.00. The town is a great place for a stroll with plenty of choices for your evening meal if you don’t wish to eat at the hotel. I will post information on the Points of interest we will see on the way, plus the itineraries for the remaining days over the course of the next two weeks. Best wishes,

OK, in order to be able to get all of the equipment from Mark. I propose that we meet up at the Dambuster Inn at 1215. That would be very appropriate for our Dambuster tour and a good start for a coffee or a quick beer and food if you want it. It will also be the first of our many photo opportunities and a good experience for those who have not visited previously. From there we will leave at 1250 for the quick run to the main Guardroom at RAF Scampton where we will be met by the heritage museum team. Then onwards for our site visit and to Gibson's office. We will depart RAF Scampton at 1500 for our quick and easy run to Hull and north Sea Ferries (P&O). "Let the fun begin!" Gavin R4 ARO

Hi everyone, Here is the tour book "lift" for Day 2 Day 2 - Thursday 25th July 2013 - Bad Durkheim to Porsche Museum Stuttgart and back - 190 miles total After breakfast depart hotel at 08.00 prompt. Follow Sat Nav Route “13.07 Dams Day 2.1” - Bad Durkheim to Stuttgart - 90 miles - 1.5 hours. Set your alarms for an early breakfast again today. Leaving the hotel at 08.00 will enable us to get to the Porsche Museum, Stuttgart (see POI 05) via the autobahn, not long after it opens at 09.00. As you now know we have been allocated all of the parking at the front of the museum under the mirrored roof so we will not only have a great photo opportunity, but our cars will also be an attraction whilst we are visiting the museum. After looking around the museum we will take lunch in the restaurant on site and then maybe have a look at the showroom across the road before continuing our journey. Leave the Porsche Museum at 14.00. Follow Sat Nav Route “13.07 Dams Day 2.2” - Porsche Museum to Bad Durkheim - 100 miles - 2.5 hours. Leaving the Porsche Museum we travel the short distance to the Solitude Race circuit (see POI 06). The Sat Nav routes us for one lap (public roads - speed limits apply) but we can go round as many times as you wish. There are good photo opportunities at various parts of the lap. Once we are ready to leave Solitude we head back on the same autobahn that we came in on this morning. We will take the opportunity to top up our tanks on the motorway near Pforzheim and then continue across the river Rhine where we will leave the motorway for more scenic routes returning to our hotel at Bad Durkheim via the “weinstrasse”. More tomorrow[;)]
