The Le Mans Classic is a ‘must do’ event for everyone with an interest in Porsche’s illustrious racing history and in endurance racing from 1923 to the early 1980s. It takes place over 3rd, 4th, 5th July 2020
The Le Mans Classic offers a great retrospective of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours. In 2020, the 10th Le Mans Classic will include a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Porsche’s first outright victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours at Circuit de La Sarthe.
It’s a fantastic three day celebration of motoring history in motion with around 8,500 collectible cars and day and night action. The sight and sound of the c.500 cars on track cannot fail to send tingles down one’s spine and the huge static displays of classic and historic cars will leave you wide eyed.
The competing cars are divided into six grids to ensure matching groups in terms of performance and historic pertinence. Each grid takes part in three races (including one at night-time). In homage to the past of the race a herringbone start is given for grids 1-2-3-4 and a flying start for the others.
It’s a more relaxed event with fewer people than the Le Mans 24hrs and probably more enjoyable for that. There’s a lot more to see than just racing and it’s easy for those wishing to take a break to get into the city of Le Mans by tram, direct from the circuit. The old town is well worth visiting.

? Exclusive dining at our own Café Virage
? Exclusive use of Village by participants and guests
? Cash bar with draught beers

? Free shuttle bus operating to different parts of the circuit
Note: The toilets and showers are serviced throughout the day and are kept clean. The food available in Café Virage was very good in 2016 and 2018 as was the beer and wine. (RG)

In the past most R7 members have travelled overnight on the Hull – Zeebrugge ferry and have booked the ferry directly. This group will catch the ferry leaving Hull on Wednesday 1st at 18.30 and return on the ferry from Zeebrugge leaving at 19.00 on 7th July. Ferry crossings arranged by Lycian are from south coast ports and it’s optional whether one books directly or through them. The option also applies to Eurostar bookings.
We will arrange a rendezvous and lunch halt in France, nearer the time. It is proposed that the group will make an overnight stop in Bruges on the return journey to avoid the pressure to reach Zeebrugge in time for the return ferry at the end of a journey of around 318 miles and to enjoy the historic city of Bruges. A hotel room will cost in the region of €120.

Based on 2018 numbers we have provisionally reserved 8 pitches with 2 people per pitch. Subject to availability numbers can be increased.
The following prices are from 2018, please note that 2020 prices will be released towards the end of September to mid-October and they will be subject to change.
The cost;
? Race Tickets (Including paddock tickets) and camping using your own tent: £349pp
? The additional cost if using a pre erected tent is below.
? 2-man pre erected tent to include air mattress and LED lights – £165.00
? 4-man pre erected tent to include air mattress and LED lights - £225.00
? Village Belles (teepee style) to include air mattress, bedding, towels and lights - £550.00
? Plus the cost of your ferry to be booked directly if sailing Hull – Zeebrugge, approximately £289pp return.
? 2 people on a pitch race tickets, camping and Eurotunnel crossing - £414pp

There will be a pitch discount for PCGB members which is yet to be confirmed with PCGB, in 2018 the discount was worth between £50 and £60.
For full details of costs please see

Lycian can arrange hotel or caravan accommodation if camping isn’t your ‘thing’.

The site has a charging point for phones and a pamper tent with mirrors and hair dryers. If you have any other requirements, please contact them.
To avoid disappointment early booking is essential.
In order to secure your pitch, Lycian require a deposit of £100pp which can be paid over the phone by calling Lycian, 01245 806264 or by bank transfer. Individuals can pay for their deposit by quoting the R7 booking reference number LE0346/RCLM20 Please post your intention to attend on here.

This event is great, I went a couple of years ago and its so good I'd like to go again next year. I'll let you know Roger when I have booked on.

Thanks

Evening Roger,

Having just returned from the fantastic curry evening at the Prashad there was much talk of this trip. Ellie and myself are seriously interested in it subject to some child care being in place via the outlaws.

Mike

That’s the sort of news I want to hear. I’m delighted that you’d like to join us and I hope you’re able to arrange child care. You’ve plenty of time to work on the outlaws. It was good to see both of you and your fabulous car on Wednesday.
Roger

I’ve got a pitch booked to share with Luke and Dean Wilkinson

P&O have a 10% discount on the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry which ends today.

Matt

If you are going to the Le Mans Classic in a Classic Porsche, you may like to drive into the circuit and Park your car infield in the area reserved for Classic Porsches next to the Pre Grid part of the Bugatti Circuit. There you can park with other Porsches or compete in the Classic Concours or if you would like to drive the full and closed to the public, Le Mans Race Circuit, then you should have a look at this website :- www.porscheclub.fr

Mike, you will love it, it’s an amazing trip.

Really sad not to be going this time, but there really is no way we can three up again.

Hopefully, next time around.

Cheers Mark and a Happy New Year to you and Carol.

Not sure if we will make it either, but a very, very long shot is I travel solo on a shorter length trip ????

Spotted in an email:

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Peter Auto and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest have decided to postpone the tenth edition of Le Mans Classic to July 1-2-3-4, 2021. After having carefully studied different scenarios and possible dates, it was finally decided that postponing Le Mans Classic to 2021 was the best solution for this event in order to continue to bring together all lovers of the vintage car in optimal conditions.
