The Le Mans Classic is a ‘must do’ event for everyone with an interest in Porsche’s illustrious racing history and in endurance racing from 1923 to the early 1980s. It takes place over 3rd, 4th, 5th July 2020
The Le Mans Classic offers a great retrospective of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours. In 2020, the 10th Le Mans Classic will include a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Porsche’s first outright victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours at Circuit de La Sarthe.
It’s a fantastic three day celebration of motoring history in motion with around 8,500 collectible cars and day and night action. The sight and sound of the c.500 cars on track cannot fail to send tingles down one’s spine and the huge static displays of classic and historic cars will leave you wide eyed.
The competing cars are divided into six grids to ensure matching groups in terms of performance and historic pertinence. Each grid takes part in three races (including one at night-time). In homage to the past of the race a herringbone start is given for grids 1-2-3-4 and a flying start for the others.
It’s a more relaxed event with fewer people than the Le Mans 24hrs and probably more enjoyable for that. There’s a lot more to see than just racing and it’s easy for those wishing to take a break to get into the city of Le Mans by tram, direct from the circuit. The old town is well worth visiting.

In the past most R7 members have travelled overnight on the Hull – Zeebrugge ferry and have booked the ferry directly. This group will catch the ferry leaving Hull on Wednesday 1st at 18.30 and return on the ferry from Zeebrugge leaving at 19.00 on 7th July. Ferry crossings arranged by Lycian are from south coast ports and it’s optional whether one books directly or through them. The option also applies to Eurostar bookings.
We will arrange a rendezvous and lunch halt in France, nearer the time. It is proposed that the group will make an overnight stop in Bruges on the return journey to avoid the pressure to reach Zeebrugge in time for the return ferry at the end of a journey of around 318 miles and to enjoy the historic city of Bruges. A hotel room will cost in the region of €120.
Based on 2018 numbers we have provisionally reserved 8 pitches with 2 people per pitch. Subject to availability numbers can be increased.
The following prices are from 2018, please note that 2020 prices will be released towards the end of September to mid-October and they will be subject to change.
