Is anyone going to Raby Castle event from York area on Sunday 20th September as am thinking about having a run out but would be interesting to travel up in convoy. I live in Hemingbrough, between Selby and York so anyone travelling up A19 or A1 ??

I think I will go to this one my first porsche outing
I would be comming from brighouse near huddersfield

It is at Staindrop, County Durham you fool! Therefore no need to answer my last post. I will probably go, I am near to Malton and therefore nearer to the A19. Where and about what time will the convoy form up?

If travelling up A19, then could meet up, say, 0900 Clifton Moor Tesco carpark or thereabouts (as this area has lots of parking) unless any other suggestions???

We will be going to Raby unless the weather does its normal thing, tis a good day out. Also up for a convoy.

Not sure of the route, but last year we came across the moors, it was a fantastic drive, but happy to go up the A19 (I think).

Raby Castle update. = Apparently it opens at 11am with ÂŁ4.50 admission per adult on the gate (ÂŁ1 going to Lord Barnards charity) If interested in show-n-shine then details of vehicle in advance to Nick Stevenson of R3 so info sheets can be printed. Cheers. John

Thanks Mark. Not sure yet of route but open to suggestions when we all meet up (depends on numbers and, of course, the weather) Do you think Clifton Moor is ok?? John

Now that I have found Raby Castle the most direct route from Clifton Moor is:-
A19 to Thirsk then,
A61 to roundabout just North of Thirsk after South Kilvington bearing left onto,
A168 to Northallerton then,
A167 to Darlington then,
A67 direction of Barnard Castle then,
turn right at Winston onto B6274 towards Staindrop then,
join A688 towards Bishop Auckland and Raby should be about a mile on the left.
As many will know the A168 from Thirsk to Northallerton can be very satisfying.
Just my humble suggestion.

Sounds good to me. So shall we meet 0900 for departure 0930 Tesco car park, Clifton Moor , North of York on bypass A1237 then A19 etc?? More cars needed please. John

That sounds like the route to me.

I would recomend a more interesting route home, that takes you through Barnard Castle and then down the B6277 and then across the A66 onto Stang Lane through Stang Foot, Hop, Arkle Beck and then ro Reeth and down the B6270, off to Stainton and connecting up with the A6108 to Leyburn onto Masham and so on....

I have put together a route map on google: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=104601376641447588981.000473216db372849df17&ll=54.5641,-1.770859&spn=0.312916,0.615921&z=11

Hoping to go, went in convoy last year from new services on A1 at Wetherby - good run up except for the police escort for most of the A1!
Happy to meet in York as suggested, but attendance ultimately dependant on weather and rugby fixtures!

9.00 for 9.30 then, we will be there at Clifton Moor. Was in Brough (A66) yesterday and hoards of early 911s passed through. I thought I had got the date wrong for Raby Castle!
First time for us at Raby Castle, are dogs allowed? and is there catering or is it a picnic? Anyone know?

They have a cafe.

Their website : http://www.rabycastle.com/visit_info/facilities.htm says that
  • Dogs are not allowed in the Castle and Gardens except guide/assistance dogs.
  • Dogs are allowed in the Park on leads only.

We'll be there, will meet up at Clifton Moor.

Not sure of car colour yet! 90% chance it could be red, e-mails and phone calls are intensifying, fingernails are getting very low.

Hi Paul
Yes, we passed them going the other way on our Historic run from Bradford to Morecambe. You missed out on a good run but may be up for it again next year. Organised by JCT 600 (see other thread). Cheers, John

We're not planning to go to Raby Castle this year due to other commitments but if anyone who's going would like to do a quick write up with photos for Porsche Post, I'd appreciate it. However, I will need your copy before Wednesday 23rd September as I will have to submit it to the editorial team early this month.

(Stands back and waits for stampede of volunteers...!)

Go on then Ian
I suppose I'll volunteer (again! see my email sent earlier) Or maybe I'll get Daniel to have a go this time

Regards
