RAC & AA - Diagnostics Tool

A general query I got reading another post from last year about the RAC. I know RAC is the roadside assistance service used by the Porsche Warranty and they carry a diagnostics tool which can help identity problems with Porsche cars "" not all of them but good enough. Does anyone have experience of using the AA on callouts to their Porsche and using a similar diagnostics tool?

I am sure they carry something, but don't really know anyone with a Porsche who has used them "" or is my answer in this sentence!

aa and rac i would have though would carry a generic obd2 diagnostic tool which can read all cars engine faults from 2000my on , it generally comes up with something called a p code to which is then cross refered...
other than that they just tow em[8|]
 
With both AA and RAC, if you can't see what is wrong by just standing and looking at the car (without doing something technical like opening the bonnet) then they normally give up and call for a tow truck, so I don't know why they bother with a reader - the codes on the reader are all fairly sophisticated ones that will be beyond the fixing ability (time allowed) for their "fix at roadside" policy.

I carry an OBD2 to USB cable in the car and much of the time my laptop is not far away, should something interesting go wrong.
 
Well the AA guy came out - lovely fella. Was slightly concerning when he stood at the front of the car waiting for me to pop the bonnet so he could do the basic oil checks etc!

However, plugged in the universal diagnostic tool they use the codes popped straight up on the screen.
