Racing a Boxster - help wanted!

Hi all,
I previousy owned a 993 Turbo and raced a 3.2 Carrera and now fancy having a crack at the Club Championship in a Boxster 2.7, pre the 2002 power upgrade (primarily to keep the donor car cost down). Not being particularly techie myself but needing to get some idea of feasibilty and whether I could get competitive (and presuming the 7bhp/tonne "penalty" Mr Kevlin has loaded against the Boxster vs other Class 1 cars can be made up for in superior handling and torque curve....) I've got a few questions. Any advice gratefully accepted!

1. How much does the roof and all associated mechanicals weigh? To get to the minimum weight (bearing in mind we still need to add back a roll cage and fire system, plus my beer gut, and get to around 1,160kg all up) I'll need to lose nearly 200kgs from the base car.
2. Exhausts: I am presuming that the std fit is pretty much as efficient as you can get in reducing back pressure? Not yet sure on the rules in respect of removal of cats.
3. How much do the std seats weigh? Hoping to lose 30-40kgs at least there...
4. I read on a spec sheet that aircon was a std fit on the early cars - though I think the website owner was getting his data from the States. Surely this isn't the case for a UK car so it won't be in the quoted kerb weghts?
5. Has anyone fitted any "race" suspension? Any recommendations? Koni manufactured some of the best stuff for the 3.2, adjustables with remote reservoirs.
6. Power will be strictly controlled - blueprinting the engine and fuelling/ignition mapping likely to be the only routes to increased bhp. Again, any recommendations?

Much obliged to anyone who can help,
Regards,
Marcus Holden

I'm not sure of all the answers to your questions, but I think you are right in most of your assumptions.

Simon Butterworth (Porschapart) is currently running a Boxster in the Speed championship, he might be able to help you with some of your queries.
I've also seen a Boxster running in the Belcar Championship, and there are several running in Japan and the USA.

You might want to check out the --> Boxster Racing Forum <-- (USA based, but should have useful info).

Keep us informed how it goes won't you? I wish I could afford to do the same thing [8D]

Tony, thanks for the offer. I'm pretty sure I can use the pipes so when I've got the project up and running I'll track you down. Cheers! The engine output has to stay within 5% of the Porsche spec book so I'll have to be careful but any easy gains to make up for the car being a smidge under powered as bought will be useful - and we can then adjust the fuelling to bring the power back down if needs be.
Thanks for the advice guys - very helpful, all of you!

Marcus
