Racing Gulf paint scheme

I wonder if anybody out there has information on the paint codes used in the Gulf race car livery (the sky blue and orange codes)?

It's daring I know, but having seen the photos of that RS at the classic Le Mans in Decembers PP, I'm tempted to bite the bullet. I've been toying with the idea of giving my '69 T a race car look but couldn't find a livery contemporary with its age, but this may be the one to go for (ok, so I know my car's a year early but hey, it'll get noticed).

You should definitely go for it. I even have fantasies of getting my 996 done... and if I ever bought a GT3 or other trackday car then it's a cert.

I did respray a GT40 in the Gulf blue and orange for a Gulf tv advert but that was years ago, still may be able to find the codes. Regards Berny.

In 1972 two Gulf colours are listed;

Gulf Blue 328
Gulf Orange 019

Previously in 1967 only Gulf Blue is listed (code 6603), but I seem to remember it being suggested this is not what is typically seen as the Gulf colours, being a little darker.

Hope this helps.

Might be too late but Blood Orange or Tangerine and Gulf blue is the best combo to match 917 livery. Gulf Orange is way too pale.

911T/R was first 911 car to sport such a combo and that car is now in the States.

Gulf sponsored this car and it was originally Tangerine with black GULF lettering on a white rectangle on the bonnet.

I had some decals made of the Gulf badge but we used the later dark blue used by Gulf to replicate it. Its made in three parts to keep costs down (not screen printed) which you stick on to each other ie white circle, 2 orange crescents and dark blue Gulf lettering. Its a cheap alternative. I make Carrera and 911R decals in any colour too. Complete sets including bootlid for £79.00 + Vat.

Gulf stickers probably around £40.00 a pair +Vat but i will need to price them up again properly as it was some time ago we made them.

As good as it gets!

This is a real Gulf sponsored 911 not a copy so as far as 911s goes this is as good as it gets in my opinion.

12th Overall in the 1968 Monte Carlo Rallye. Bonnet decal is a replica of original and in same position but car was narrow bodied and finished in Tangerine (Blood Orange) in 1968. Car upgraded in 1969 with Group 4 GT bodywork and orignal engine fitted with dual ignition and Titanium con rods 906 heads, 46 IDAs etc. Raced at Nurburgring in 1971 in Gulf Blue? Orange was added back later on lower body by me in 1999 with correct 911R decals (World-Wide Classics). Car came 4th in 2000 Tour Auto de France in class G and 10th in all post historic G,H,I classes(post 1965)!!!!

I had not seen any 911s livered as such until after the Tour Auto so i am guessing this started the trend we see today and so aptly covered in a recent 911&PW article. Perhaps someone knows of a Gulf sponsored car like this that i don't or a car painted in this scheme before this one. Incidently sister car (finished 10th in 1968 Monte Carlo Rallye) was restored and is in USA too but in orange and narrow bodywork. This car is not restored.

I will be painting mine in gulf colours this year, but not quite like everybody else, with the central stripe it doesn't seem top look right to me, so i am offsetting two stripes down the drivers side, with orange carrera rs vinyl lettering. I will post a photo as soon as it is done. ( and the enginerebuild, the gearbox rebuild, the carburettor rebuild, and the overdraft rebuild!!)

Yes i don't think the stripe down the bonnet looks right either. The proportions are just not correct compared with the lower wider 917.

I supply Carrera Decals and 911R decals in any colour you like for £79.00 Plus Vat. This picture is the latest Gulf themed car we have produced. It is a genuine RSL fully restored by ourselves. More pictures of this car can be seen on Cars for Sale at WWC-Porsche.com. Again the orange is closer to 73 Blood Orange/Tangerine. Gulf Orange looks too pale.

Such is the interest of the Gulf colour scheme in recent months we are in danger of having too many Gulf Liveried cars out there so your variation of the theme would be very refreshing and original. Can't wait to see the pictures.

We have also made dark blue Carrera decals and tape which on a Gulf Blue car would look very good and better than the normal black. Especially so with the prototype in fill of the sill in the same colour.

Lastly where ever i drive the Gulf car most men are indifferent to the scheme but all the women without exception so far seem to love it! WHY? is it new born baby Boy Blue?

So all you men who are struggling to get that Porshe accepted in the family i may have the answer!

Enjoy.
