Radar Detector - Cheetah Sentinel - Powers off at 40kph

Has anyone out there installed a Cheetah Sentinel radar detector in a 911SC? I purchased one for going to the Le Mans classic the other week. After installing it I found that the PowerNode switches the detector off when I reach 40kph. So not very usefull. Have replaced the PowerNode and still have the same problem.

Basically the PowerNode connects to the battery and automatically determins when the car is running, thereby switching the detector on. This is very cleaver and ensures that you do not drain the battery when the car is turned off.

Does something strange happen with the voltage or alternator when a 1982 911SC reaches 40kph?

Have worked through this with Navtel who are great but they are at a loss. They have neaver come accross this before.

Any thoughts?

cheers

Hi,

I cannot help with your query, but I can tell you that radar detectors are very illegal in France

It is approx a £500 fine for posession I think (does not have to be active)

cheers

Will do. Probaly can't test the voltage toill next week though.

I'm sure I read somewhere the other week that one model of the SC had some special device attached to the alternator. Not sure though, so thought you guys might.

Well after voltage and physical testing I have found that the voltage is steady throughout the rev curve. So the device is now hard wired in on the cig lighter circuit and the unit works fine.

The manufacturer is developing a new Power Node which we will test in a few months. In the mean time so far no one can state why the PowerNode stops working when driving over 40kph.

BTW our local safety camera partnership helpfully publish a diary of places they are going to be ... yes in advance...... So you can use an organiser to surprisingly good effect. The best part is it works on whatever camera/ equipment they are are using.

We have a nasty white LWB transit with some clever cameras that can zap cars going in both directions. Needless to say I found the camera partnership website too late to save me from the nasty white transit.[&o]

Jerry - a pity you found the site too late. What is the site? It would be interesting to see.

Thanks

On holidayz. Back soon. Just have a look for safety camera partnerships on goohoo etc. More when I get back.

Be lucky (er than me with speed cameras!)
