Radar Detector Stealth Install

Any experience with stealthy install of a portable unit ? I have a Bell550 and find it sticks out far too much on the dash.

I was wondering if anyone experimented with sitting the unit behind the seats, in the compartment where you normally stach the windstop, leaving the little latchdoors opened. This way the unit is totally invisible and does face forward.

I would assume that this will reduce partly or totally the laser detection capability, having said that there is a good unobstructed view on th ewindscreen in that back position, I also assume that radar waves should be picked up equally well on the dash, or 1 meter behind in that compartment.

Any thoughts ?

There is a chap in the USA (danf@aol.com) who sells a "stealth box" for the Valentine 1 radar detector.

The box mounts to the rollbar (without damage).
You can see some photo's of the install here ---> http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/v1.shtml

Not tried it myself - I still have the brick of a V1 suckered to the screen.
