Radiator cap and air con.

Hi all,

Seen lots of posts on the expansion bottle cap, sorry if it's all been talked about before! - I have as yet, no issues with the expansion tank or cap, it's just that I have looked at mine and I see that I have the 1 suffix part numbered item, do I really need to upgrade to the 3 suffixed item? - what is the difference, is it a different 'cracking pressure' - higher or lower?

Also, I seem to have a slight leak from the air com pipe running down the drivers side, its just in front of the rear wheel, looking like its leaking near the pipe clamp here, is this pipe a costly repair? its just leaking the odd drip on the garage floor at the moment, but it going to get worse i'm sure. (doesnt look like jacking damage though)

PS - see some of you on Saturday!

Re cap - if it ain't broke don't fix - it is a good adage.

Are you sure your 'air-con leak' isn't just from condensation on the outside of the pipe?

Hi thanks for the reply. (its a '99 C2 cab BTW)

no, its defo not condensation as its a green ish oil, so I think it's definately got a crack in it. I will endevour to remove the clamp and hav a look further tonight, unles its the clamp holding it all together, then I will wish i have just left it alons, as it's been refilled 10 weeks ago!.

As you have an 01 cap, I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a problem. The 00 caps are particularly susceptible to leaking. The latest is 04.

Are you sure it is an aircon pipe? If it is leaking, it is likely the aircon won't be blowing cold. Also, the aircon pumps sometimes get noisy when the gas is low, so that might also be an indicator. IIRC the power steering lines also run around that area, so check the level in the steering pump.

Hi richard, i think its the air con pipe, it certainly gets very cold with the aircon on, there are two pipes running together, so i was expecting a feed and return pipe running together. The air con does work, and is quiet, but will check the power steering level as well.

My air con is noisy - sounds like the bearings are on their way out - does it just need a re-gas?

Worth trying, certainly. Somewhere like Kwik-Fit will be the cheapest option.
