radiator fan seized

Hi,

Is it unusual for a radiator fan to seize? My Boxster is 2.5 years old, well maintained by the dealership and used daily. Do you think it is a wearable part or was it a manufacturers fault?

Thanks

Never heard of that one before but as the car is only 2 and a half years old you can take this back to Porsche, I know the warranty has run out but the sale of goods act will be usefull to you here.

All products sold must be fit for purpose and have a reasonable life span - the life span varies according to the product - a Pencil wouldnt be covered as a defect if it is weeks old but a washing machine would be.

All products have a "design life" typically cars have 5 to 8 years, however some parts of the car wouldnt have such an extended design life - consumables for instance, but the radiator fan motor should be quite a few years, therefore to have failed in such a short time there must have been a defect in that part.
Simply the threat of using the small claims court should get a favourable result, just do a bit research into the sale of goods act, the small claims court procedure and construct a letter to Porsche, remember in the small claims court you get to present your case, the company cannot hire a solicitor to prevent a "David and Goliath" scenario and you only have to prove your case on the balance of probabilities - not beyond all reasonable doubt.
Typically companies will pay rather than go to court, and if they fail to respond within 14 days from presenting your summons you automatically win your case.
Small claims court is cheap and you get your money back if you win the case - have a read about this court on the internet
