I drained the 924S in order to put fresh antifreeze in. Thought the drain plug felt odd when unscrewing it and sure enough there was virtually no thread left in the black plastic end tank of the radiator. Previous owner or garage has just refitted it with clear silicone .... and prayed.
Took the rad out - not through the bottom as the Haynes 944 manual strangely suggests - and after a quick measure with the calipers I re-cut the thread with a 12 x 1.75mm metric tap. Shortened a bolt/setscrew to make a new plug, fibre washer and a dab of Hylomar and the rad was back in within 10 minutes. There is actually good enough access to re-tap in situ should it ever happen to your car.
P.S. I am after one usable 924S/944 rear wheel stud, having had to drill one out because the alloy wheel nut had corroded way under size and all attempts to remove with a smaller socket tapped on failed miserably. Has anyone got an old hub that they could knock a stud out from ? Beer money and postage offered.
