Radiators: clearing leafs and debris

Hi all

Just got my car back from OPC Nottingham after a hefty bill for new front disks and pads and a couple of exhaust bolts (happily got a good discount because of my porsche club membership). On the health check it came back as amber in one section because of a heavy build up of leafs around the radiators

I have just had my hand shoved up there for half an hour and dug out a surprising amount of not only leafs but silt and debris, ive also given the area a quick rinse with a hose but is there anything else I should be doing?

Cheers Tom

I think you can get mesh grilles to stop this happening , common issue , any good Porsche mechanic should check and do as a matter of course. Can be very expensive to replace rads. Not a long job to take off front.

Yikes

I've cleaned all the leafs and silt out, taking off the bumper sounds like a right job [&:] any one any idea of a good (reasonably priced) place near nottingham that can do this?

Cheers Tom

Richard has done a nice DIY posting on this here.

There's quite a lot of crud that becomes lodged right up in the corners of the PU and in between the rads. It is quite impossible to remove all this without taking off the bumper.

The problem is all this stuff retains moisture, which rapidly corrodes the rads. leading to their failure. I tend to spray all rads. with a moisture resisting preservative whilst the front is off and this seems to help too.

Regards,

Clive.
