Radio and aerial

New member
Hi all, I was wondering if someone can point me in the direction of how the aerial system works on the 944. I have an aerial lead plugged into my stereo but cannot receive and stations.
There does not seem to be a visible aerial anywhere on the car, nor can I find an amplifier of any sort.
Where should I be looking for these things?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

Aside from the early cars, the aerial is the line down the centre of the windscreen, which may explain why you can't find it [;)]

Exactly how it all connects and works I can't help you I'm afraid

Cheers
Andy

Provided you have a reasonable signal where you are simply connecting an aerial wire from a domestic hi fi system (or any decent length of copper wire ) should get you radio reception . If not then the problem may well lie with radio unit itself rather than the car aerial .

The cars fitted with the windscreen aerial are also supposed to have a signal booster. Sounds as if yours may be missing / defective / not plugged in.

Hello,

Cheers for the replies, yes there is a strip of copper inside the front windscreen. So that's what it is, lol, I have been wondering that since I got the car!
Also, it is a brand new stereo so it's unlikely that is at fault. I suppose I could try tracing the aerial lead to see where it terminates. Is there no signal booster then?

Well I found where the windscreen aerial plugs into and the wire is pretty corroded, I stretched it out a bit, cleaned it up and insulated it and can now good a low signal strength on some FM channels. Sounds like the booster may be faulty/missing

there should be a black wire taped to the aerial coax wire thats the feed for the booster, i connected it to the power aerial supply (blue wire on sony head unit)

There is indeed a black wire with a clip taped to the coax cable, but it is not attached to anything. I was looking at it earlier and thought it might be an earth. Should this bea attached to one of the stereo wires you think?
Might explain things :)

Yes I have connected it to the blue wire, just wrapped it around the existing one temporarily and I now have radio. I will sort it out properly next weekend when I have a bit more time.
Thanks once again for all the help
