Radio at FULL VOLUME and won't turn down!

Well the strangest thing happened yesterday with my OEM radio/CD player. Having the day before played a CD and radio without difficulty I hopped in yesterday and the volume was UP AT FULL AND REFUSED TO TURN DOWN!!! (caps and bold for effect!).
Turning the volume knob left or right had no impact but pushing it to switch off did work.

I don't listen to the radio all that much so I'll forego the pleasure for now but is this a common issue?

Had this and was due to wiring loom fault with speed dependent volume control feed. Suggest check check the connector / wiring loom to radio.

Hope this helps

Thank you @marc_tt and @Geoff Fields who certainly makes it sound like my problem isn't unique (and after all why should it be?) .

Nothing scientific abut this but I ejected the cd, turned the unit off, turned it back on, put a cd back in and TADAA! Normal service resumed.
