radio/cassette

I have a 1987 911 Carrera Cab. and the radio cassette is a Sony XR-7041.
Radio reception is poor but no visible aerial. It looks ancient and tapes sounds great.

According to my copy of the Porsche 911 Red Book 1965 "" 2005 there are, as you would imagine, a huge number of options available for the 1978 911SC to the 1993 993 2/4. These cover all the options for these models not just radios/tapes/CD players. If you can access the option codes for your car "" aren't they in the handbook on a label? "" it should be fairly straightforward to convert them into the information you need.

The book doesn't appear to give the standard fitment unfortunately.

Have I just told you something you already knew?

The Certificate of Authenticity I requested from Porsche for my 993 lists separately all the options including the radio. This could be a line of enquiry for you if you haven't already been down that route.

Not quite as simple as that.

Within the range of options for those years there are over 10 types of audio equipment listed. If I'm understanding the book correctly any of those could be fitted, with no 'standard fit' indicated.

I have a number of Porsche brochures collected over the years covering the SC and slightly later models. These are scant on radio options but peering at the photos Blaupunkt seems to be the fit more often than not. Whether this was specific for Germany I don't know.

Back to the Red Book. The following specific Blaupunkt kit is listed: Berlin, Koln, Bremen, Symphony, Toronto, Ludwigsburg and Boston. Description says 'radio' with no indication if a cassette player is included (but I'm sure you could research that if you wanted).

Added to these there are descriptions such as: Porsche radio, radio Monterey or Reno (no make given), radio Charleston (no make given), Porsche CR stereo/cassette.

So, more information but not much progress!

I seemed to recall something about option code information on a label (same as in the handbook you don't have) on the underside of the bonnet. Worth a look but unlikely to still be there after all these years.

Hi Pepe I have a 1989 3.2 and the standard fitment for my car was a BLAUPUNKT TORONTO SQR 46. It took me a while but I eventually tracked a good one down on ebay(where else ),Ive also now had the unit upgraded to play MP3, so best of both worlds, classic look with modern sound quality.

Best of luck with your search

Simon

Just another thought Pepe if the options label is still attached to the underside of your front lid, check to see if the audio equipment is listed onit as I have a copy of Peter Morgans book ULTIMATE BUYERS GUIDE and alot of the codes and descriptions are listed in it.If I can help please dont hesitate.

Cheers Simon

My '86 Carrera had a Blaupunkt Toronto SQR46 as standard fitment, on the options list there were others available, from the '87 price list I find, Blaupunkt Berlin IQR 85 radio cassette at £960.54 and the Panasonic CQ-DP5 Radio-CD player at £403.65

Hi
My 87 3.2 has a Berlin radio cassette.I would have thought that a Sony is an after market unit.
Also the Ariel is fitted in windscreen with a small booster under the bonnet.Sometimes if a new screen has been fitted they forget to connect it up or they break the wires comming out of the screen(that happened to me )If all is working the radio reception should be ok.

Cheers
