radio code

Hi,
Anyone know where the radio code would have been noted on a 2003 986 ? Would it've been on a plastic card with the manual & service record? I've got an almost dead battery which I need to replace but haven't got the radio code. If I get an OPC to change the battery at the imminent annual service they'll restore the code gratis, right ? Alternative I s'pose is to change the battery myself and live without the radio till the service ?

If I recall correctly, there is no radio code for the 2003 model-year cars (onwards).
This is because the radio is coded to the ECU va the MOST (optical) bus.

FYI OPCs have a record of codes on file, you can just call them and ask them. If not ,they can plug a car into their computers and read the codes to you. They may charge you .5 hours labour, but I had mine done for free (thank you OPC Chiswick!)

Thank-you both !
Methinks I'll change the battery myself then and save a few quid... It's got a Moll Kamina 580 42 in it at the moment...

For info, bought a Bosch Silver S5 010 for ÂŁ128 from CES in Shrewsbury... After reading the excellent 996 tech advice fitted it in about 20 mins. As stated above no need for any re-input of radio code required. The hardest part was lifting the old one out !
Cheers

I have a decoder which gives the code from the serial number.

For a CR-22/CDR-22 - Hold down the TP button for at least 10 seconds after you turn the radio on. "Becker 1" will be displayed. Rotate the right knob (slowly) and it will display the Becker model number. Then rotate it again and the serial number should be displayed on the radio.
Or, if the radio is out of the car the then the serial number is on the label.

Drop me an email with the serial number, and I'll send you the code.

I don't think there is one. If I remember rightly the radio is coded to the car. Somebody else will probably be along to correct me.

You are quite correct - no code - its coded to the car

THANKS ...so from that info if I disconnect the battery it will not loose any info ,do you require to get anything else done if I have to fit a new battery will any other info be lost .

As I recall disconnecting and reconnecting the battery is quite well handled in the handbook. I didn't lose anything when changing the battery on my 986.

Re Porsche Protect - try restarting the car a couple of times. A few others on the Internet with the same issue said that was the solution.
