Radio (etc) flips in and out of r/h channels?

Well I tend not to use the radio/CD/tape player because I'm sufficiently entranced by the orchestra placed where most owners put their dogs/shopping/umbrellas.

However today I noticed that the right channel flipped in and out, sometime it was there, sometimes not. I was en route from A to B so next weekend will see a quick check that all the plugs in the back of the head unit and the amp thing under the front aren't misbehaving and otherwise do the simple, easy-to-get-at stuff.

My car has "Sound System" and "CDR-22 CD Radio with CD Autochanger Preparation" but the last item is not fitted.

I think I recall reading in one of magazines last year about the amp units failing (and possibly with a parasitic drain issue?) and maybe repeated in Porsche Post. The only problem is that I take my stack of mags to Classics and the Castle and leave them on a "help yourself" basis to all.

So please what do we know about these units, is there a known age-related fault?
