Radio iPod help

Hi All

I have a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 radio that was in the car when I purchased it, (presume it was factory fitted) I took it out but have decided to put it back in, amazing but tried it and all is working (been put away 8 years ago), my question is can I connect my iPod through the 8 pin din at the rear via a 3.5mm jack to the headphone out on the iPod, I don't want to just plug it in and damage either the radio or iPod.

If I can, is there any downsides, hopefully someone has done this, all help appreciated.

I would imagine that if the din socket is for a external CD drive then it may work, you will not be able to control the IPOD form the head unit
if not there is the FM modulator option
I would doubt trying it would cause any issue
I get the "originality" of an old unit but if it was me I would keep it to enhance re-sale and get a Alpine Head unit after all they are design to be heard not looked at[:D]

It may be possible, but you'd need the pin-out of the DIN connector to find out.

I'm with Ken; a more modern unit (and there are some good-looking ones out there; try looking for Blaupunkt or Becker - or Nakamichi if you can afford it) is probably a better way forward.

Thanks for the replies,

I don't want to control my iPod from the radio, just have the ability to plug it in put it on shuffle and play it through the radio, I don't use CDs now, it's all on my iPod, I tried the FM modulator option but didn't like it, and yes I was trying to go back to the original (at least the radio that was fitted when I purchased the car), I like the hidden stereo but to advanced for my minimum talents :ROFLMAO:

I have found some 8 pin din to 3.5mm jacks but emailing the sellers has resulted in no reply, my worry is that it may work but I might loose the radio function unless I disconnect the iPod, and I am not sure by disconnecting the iPod I might damage it.

I would be grateful if someone has done this or can point me to a supplier, I am sure I have heard of this being done in the USA.

Hi All

Found this item on Ebay (item No 262312484209) what do people think and does anyone know what link wire they are talking about, they say to remove it first, I don't have anything plugged in to the 8 pin Din plug in the back of the radio, I may be missing something here, help appreciated.

Problem solved, I purchased a used Blaupunkt BEA 80 equalizer and a universal in-car cassette adaptor to fit in the Bremen SQR46, the sound with the iPod connected is excellent and keeps the look as per 1987, OK the iPod can't be controlled from the head unit, but I usually stick it on shuffle and enjoy the randomness of the choices, I may even dig out some of my old cassettes :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the input.

I will dig out a picture. It involves cutting out and shaping the ashtray then bonding the bottom tray from the iPod box to the underside of the ashtray.

I carefully made a cut out in the bottom end of the tray for the iPod cable (not 3.5 out the top)

Sorry I don't have a close up picture at the moment.
