Radio Problem

Hi,

I went into a garage the other evening to hear loud voices!

My 1997 993S is still fitted with the original radio/cassette player which seems to have developed an intermittent fault which manifests as the radio turning on by itself and playing very loudly for a while and then just as mysteriously switches off. The process them repeats after a while!

Any similar experiences or suggested solutions?

Many thanks
Robert

As no one else has responded I may as well suggest one possibility: Years ago I had a series of intermittent electrical faults (although none radio-related). Wipers starting when uncommanded. Doors unlocking and later re-locking themselves. Alarm going off.

The problem turned out to be condensation in the front fuse box (the one inside trunk just in front of steering wheel). There was no obvious cause of the condensation. I dried it out with desiccant packs and the faults have not returned. Neither has the condensation returned (although I can't say I check inside the fusebox often!). It may have been caused by a particular combination of weather conditions.

Worth a look inside your fuse box. There were very obvious (many) droplets of water on inside of lid that had dropped onto the fuse board.
