Radio volume increase

Whilst driving home yesterday the volume of the radio in my new Cayman 981 suddenly increased to what is probably maximum volume. I quickly turned it down but the same thing happened again several times, I changed from the radio to other sources and the fault persists.

I am not convinced that the sat-nav instructions are of consistent loudness but they don't suddenly get stupidly loud like the radio.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem ?

Thanks

I've not heard of this problem before and don't know if the 981 has variable volume against background noise as some radios do but it sounds (sorry) as though there is a problem with the Amp, it's a new car so they should just sort it at the OPC.

If it's not a fault, could it simply be settings? Although I'm not familiar with your car specifically, it strikes me there will be a few settings worth checking. As buddy says, there will most likely be a speed-sensitive volume setting - on/off/degree of effect. Also a Satnav instructions volume. Finally a radio traffic incident volume setting - so if there's a traffic incident and you have the setting on, it will crank the volume up to / by the amount specified. Give the manual a good old browse before fearing the worst.

Hi Keith

This may be totally unrelated but I read an article about the boxster/cayman (although it was the 987 model) re an amplifier, something to do with "sound package plus" located in the front luggage compartment

I read the article in February 2016 "911 & porsche world"

maybe worth looking on the net at last months issue

As I say- may be totally unrelated but worth a read

Hope you get sorted

This is/was a common problem with 987. The cure is to remove the PCM/Radio fuse and reinstate , which reboots the unit and usually solves the issue. Whether it works for 981 I have no idea.

Thank-you all for your comments and advice.

I took the car to the Cardiff PC yesterday, they switched-off (Audiopilot) the function to increase the volume with speed and all was ok. I've to-day switched the function back-on and again it's working normally.

This makes no sense to me as the volume increase I was getting wasn't subtle, it was simply going to max power.

I'm hoping however that this is now sorted but time will tell !
