RAF Coningsby is a military base between Lincoln and Boston - and the home of the RAF's newest fighter, the Typhoon. Additionally, the airfield operates the last squadron of Jaguars, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire, Hurricane etc) and the Fast Jet Operational Evaluation Unit (Tornado, Harrier etc).
The Unit is having a Families' Day on Saturday 20 May - at which a comprehensive flying display (which should include Typhoon, Tornado, Spitfire, Hawk, F16 plus many more) will take place, weather permitting. Additionally, there will be a number of aircraft on static display - together with craft stalls. Up to 30 Ferraris will also be on static display - and I have been asked if I could entice some Porsche owners to attend as well.
Cars would need to arrive by 1030 hrs latest and preferably stay until 1600 hrs; the flying display will start at noon. There will be refreshment stalls - but the prudent would take a picnic!
If anyone would like to attend then I need the following details by Friday 12 May - so that personal and vehicle security passes can be arranged:
Full names of driver and passengers
Type, colour and registration of car
Also, attendees would need to bring along 2 forms of identity - one of which must have a photograph, so a passport would be ideal.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to admit anyone who is late - or a car or person that has not been pre-registered.
I do not intend to arrange a meal afterwards; however, I can point people in the direction of some excellent local hostelries - for those that may wish to make their own arrangements.
In summary, you get a free flying display - and the families of RAF Coningsby personnel get to look at your cars; plus we all get to talk about Porsches - and Ferraris!
Interested? Contact me soonest by e-mail - and certainly by Friday!
