Ragley Hall what a farce

Lets see if this gets published or not.

Went to Ragley hall today, sadly it fell far short of previous events, but expectations were high

  • No traffic managment or signage
  • No sign's at all actually
  • A few people trying very hard to help at the entrace, which was appreciated after that nothing
  • Parking was un suprvised - pretty much drop your car where you feel like
  • All marques were mixed up together, no sperate non Porsche area
  • No food, bar 1 shop which sold out minutes after we arrived
  • The one specialist cofffee shop with rationed milk, no cappucino's, hot chocolate etc
  • 2 toilets plus whatever was in Ragley hall, for thousands of attendees
  • No real organisation after that point
We arrived within 1 mile of Ragley hall at 10:45 it took until 13:25 to travel the last mile and park the car. By this stage the queue behind us was huge

Went straight for the food, queued for 5 minutes before it was announced only biscuits and cakes left. Found a goody shop that sold ice cream, came back 5 minutes late and the restraunt was simply shut.

This is not a slagging off here, I talked to these people and other Ragley staff, the genral response was they did not expect anything like the number of people, were not told to expect that many people and were therfore simply not prepaired.

I then spent another few hungry hours walking around encountering crying kids who're not got any food that day, distressing for the parents.

When i asked around after the lack of other food stalls, I was informed that the ground rental costs were too high for the day

This was a heavilly adertised event with tickets on the day, and no one seemed prepaired for the numbers that turned up.

Walking around I'd have said pretty much the same number that turned up each day the previous few years give or take a few.

I recentl went to the Fesitval of speed, which has far more poeple attenidng and far more complex activites going on, we could learn a thing or two about how to run a session from there.

The sad thing was the number of people who I talked to who said this was probably their last annual event because of the experience on the day.

The clear message is future events need to be far more meticulously planned and executed or we re at risk of killing off what should be the best event of the year for Porsche enthusiasts

.

what a waste of 15£ and sunday for this .

3hrs in the traffic at that bp round about and then no food! so force to leave after about 30mins! [][] anyway everything look the same compare to few years back at brands hatch ! i won come again!

also saw a lot of car break down on the way!

p.s if you don have enough money to organise the event , why don u ask me![][]

totally useless organiser!!!!!! so F off!!

Rip us hall festival!!

Guys, I totally agree with your sentiments, I couldn't even find the 997 section [] I had to drive around looking for it..
I took a picnic so food wasn't an issue, however I would of liked a coffee..!

For £15 the day wasn't too bad, it would of cost you £16 just to get into the grounds so please put this into prespective...[;)]

However, there is already a thread running in the general discussion section on the issues of the day http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=317190&mpage=1&key=񍜆
could I request you post your responses on that section to put the forums full weight behind the discussion. However if you have any comments about the show from the 997 part then we would like to hear your comments.

Good news is we got an update on the phone situation... [;)]

Gary - couldn't find the 997 area either so gave up and tried to park in the Essex region, which was full, so for the afternoon I belonged to the Ragley Tree Sectio, which i would humbly suggest we set up as a sub f the 997 register in memory of today.

£15 to be fair its easy to get stuck into organsiers of an event but the general consensus from those I
talked to on this was 'd all have paid more for a better event, especially for the 30th anniversary event.

I am not ino kicking these guys but recongising areas where we could improve things

what's the skinny on the phone?

Today at the Ragley Hall event (Yes we made it there) Rob and myself spent a while chatting to the Porsche technical guys about the phone system.

He mentioned an imminent upgrade will be available at the OPC's to rectify the phone system.
It will be via the PCM CD drive and will be just a software upgrade which they fully expect to cure the issues.
As you may know the very same system worked fine on the 996 and does so on many 997's, although on some software glitches have caused issues.
The system when working correctly has been compared to being better than the Parrot setup.

A far as costs (I know []) go , he could not comment.... if your within warranty then he saw no problems, however it may be down to the discretion of the OPC.

I thought the event and organisation was awful, truly. Very poor on the food front. I would have at least expected some burger vans etc to cater to the masses.

That said, I did have a fantastic day but only because every where I turned there was someone I knew (mainly from 911uk.com) and that made the day.

Great to see Rob again briefly and being given the honour of my car displaying the 997 register flag + to meet Gary for the first time.

I clocked your motors but there wasn't anyone there when we were passing.

Next time maybe.

Hi All,

I would like to apologise for your Ragley experiences. I think the club has really let itself down with this event, and the minor, common-sense issues like access, parking and catering that we're so badly planned and implemented and impacted everyone.

I think your comments and criticisms are fair, and you may have seen there's a particularly lengthy posting in the members-only section of this forum.

Personally I could only be at Ragley until 12:30, and I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer and catch-up with more of you. My car was on the Michelin stand, not that it did me any favours ! I know Gary and his wife Jo were there for the day, luckily they'd bought a picnic and didn't starve unlike many.

I can only apologise again and I hope this hasn't coloured your opinion of the club. Gary and I are trying to run the 997 regsiter as best we can, and we hope you enjoy our events etc. If work didn't get in the way we'd be doing far more ! We're already planning at least one more drive this autumn, and at least one international trip next year.

And apologies also for the lack of content in the Porsche Post. I'm still writing a monthly column with Gary every month, and a long article on the future for 997, but my articles haven't been published lately for one reason or another. Fingers X'd that normal service is resumed in the October issue you'll get at the end of September.

Thanks

Rob

Robert,

Neither you nor Gary need to or should appolgise.

Neither of you were behind or dis-oranising the day.

To date all the events you have oganised have been extreemely well run and credit to both of you for that, its not easy.

The overall club mangement could learn a thing or two from it [;)][;)][;)]

One thing I have laughed about is that origianlly we were going to do a drive out around the local area stopping off for lunch...!! [:)] Hindsights a wonderful thing, it may have been a busy convoy!?

I noticed your comments about the phone system - I have a 2004 C2S 997 and the phone system will not read my SIM card. When I had my car serviced at the OPC they claimed to have tested a number of other SIM cards which they claim worked OK. I have a '3' SIM card and don't know if the phone system has problems with 3G cards?

If anyone could give me any information this would be appreciated!

It would also seem to me that this is perhaps a goodwill issue - if there is a problem it seems unfair that the only other alternative is to invest in an aftermarket system which seems crazy given that the manufacturer's phone system was a cost option.

Phil

Phil, I'm not sure if the telephone module works with "3"..?

They are Tri band GSM900/1800/1900 which does cover Orange, Vodafone and O2 amongst others but I'm not aware of what "3" is on..

Bizzarly that would have made the perfect day - a morning drive round the area, lunch in a Pub - missing the queues: by pm it was half empty, so loads of parking and time enough to see the displays and handful of activties going on.

Maybe you should organise some thing like this for next year, if any one is actually going

Outside the 3G network "3" phones use the Orange transmitters to maintain coverage - so I'd have thought it ought to work.

Tom, it was in the original thread for this Ragley hall event quite a few months ago, but no one took up the offer [].... so it got binned.

With the horific weather on the run up to Ragley I couldn't blame anyone though...[;)]

Gary unfortunately they do not do "ironic" typeface[8|], I remembered the original offre on the thread.

Maybe next time you guys suggest something like this we'll get off our behinds and sign up[:D]
