Ragley Hall

Hi All,

Back to work today after yesterdays visit to Ragley Hall and was just thinking about it all.

Overall we had a very good day, saw some truly wonderful cars but also thought that that the event had something missing.

Good points :-
The weather.
The main house.
The view of a field full of Porsche's from the main house.
944 Display.
964 Display.
928 Display.

Poor points :-
I appreciate that not everyone can expect to get a prime position for displaying their register, but thought that the 993 area was far too small. I did manage to squeeze my car in though!
Queues in were horrible. Not sure why as I would have expected the one way system to have worked. Fortunately we only live 30 minutes away so knew back way in.
Heard that food had run out by 2 p.m. Glad we had taken a picnic to keep our family costs down!
Thought the pig roast should have started earlier than 4 p.m. A lot of people started leaving well before this, probably because they were hungry!
No Cayenne 4 x 4 experience which my 2 children had been looking forward to.
Did not find it that easy to meet fellow 993 owners, although did meet a few. Was there a meeting point other than the display area?

I am relatively new to the club and whilst I see regular posts on the forum from certain members, it would have been nice to put a face (and car) to some of the names.

Think I will try a Porsche track day in my car soon as I believe that is more up my street. Have done many before with my 1988 BMW E28 M5 but will have to wait until my new tyres are worn in a bit or get a spare set.

Photo attached from the house.

Best regards,

Mark Thompson

The Chairman has "apologised" to members for the catering and traffic chaos : - http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=317255

Apparently the organisers were overwhelmed by the numbers. Ragley themselves were also not very helpful.

We were unable to attend this year - however I'm really glad having read some of the comments.

What a shame. We really enjoyed Eynsham, Brands and Highclere, so here's hoping the club can get it right for next year.

Very poor, queued for one and half hours to get in!Surely somebody could have directed traffic. On arrival the toilets were at the other end of the grounds with a queue. By 1pm food had run out at the only place availiable to buy it. Coffee and tea stand had a massive queue and then ran out of tea! Very few trade stands, register areas not clearly marked until you parked your car and walked around, to late by then. Most people seemed to be leaving around 3pm in fact people were leaving as we queued at 11am. We took the family and friends and really the whole day was a disappointment and not worthy of a PCGB day. The weather was nice and the cars on display and parked looked great. I have only been to the Highclere PCGB day a few years ago, but that was a good day out. Sorry to moan but i'm an easy going chap but felt very short changed yesterday.

I'll second everything said above. My first PCGB National & considering the hype in Post beforehand, I was disappointed.

- Few sometimes sparsely-stocked trade stands (even the PCGB "tent" was small, dark & didn't have very much in it).
- No food or drink without long queues, then it ran out (we even thought about going out of Ragley for lunch & coming back, but there was a queue to get out for parts of the afternoon! Burger vans, ice cream vans etc could have made a killing, but nothing.
- Loos...well it's been said
- Getting in...we queued as well for nearly an hour too.
- Most disappointing of all was the lack of a focal point (or person(s) to find around the cars) for the 993 register.

If future events are ever held up near Manchester, I for one would be happy to assist in any way required, as I appreciate that this sort of event is a huge undertaking to pull off successfully.

Nice weather though wasn't it?!! [:(][:(][:(][:(][X(]
