Railway in Wartime 15-17 October

Just a tentative enquiry to round off the season. Would anyone be interested in a trip to Pickering/Goathland area on Sat 16th or Sun 17th October when there will be street entertainment and vehicle displays celebrating circa 1943. Some of you older members may be able to dust off your de-mob suits while us "younger" ones could just go as we are (Jane says I have never been particularly fashionable) I know a few of you guys can still remember those good old days first time around while others just dream!! It's just an idea, we could meet up York area and drive up together. John

We attended in Pickering last year, it was a great day and the costumes were fantastic, especially the women. Downside I'm afraid is that it has got too big - impossible to walk along the streets so many people. Attendance last year was far in excess of that planned, however, there was a park and ride outside the town etc. but queues to get there stretched for miles. Bit like the Goth weekend at Whitby, town becomes gridlocked and comes to a standstill.

Great idea - but have to agree with John and Rita. Parking around the NYMR is difficult. I talked to them last year about a potential trip for the club and they were helpful but getting it set up where there was safe parking close enough to the railway to make it worthwhile proved difficult.

My best guess from that would be park at Goathland and take the train to Pickering if you wish to. Probably would need someone to "guard" the cars though.

Would love to come if a solution can be found.

My Wife and I have done this the last few years but on the Friday a lot less people, Parked at Grosmont and then the train to Pickering, you can get a ticket that you can just jump on & off at any station

John at Grosmont theirs a big manned carpark you may be able to organize to use the bus parking if you ask them

Sounds like a good day out ruined by lack of parking and crowds!!!
Would love to go if that was not the case.

Chris
