Hi All,

I decided to use rainx on my windscreen......never again the vision at night when its raining is awful with or without the wipers on. How do I remove it??? I have use various glass cleaners but no luck even thinking of a new screen drastic I no but at least I will be able to see where I'm going!! side and rear windows ok no probs but don't use it on your front screen!!!

Anyone else had this problem?

I used to use it a lot - never had a problem.
You say "awful" - in what way?

Hi Mark,

It's just smeary all the time when wet after the wipers have swept across even worse at night with the on coming traffic's headlights. Stupid question but have I done something wrong like to much liquid or not enough??

Ah ha ! There-in lies the problem. If you use RainX you're not meant to use the wipers at all !!!! If you prp the screen properly and apply the RainX according to the instructions rain water should simply bead off the screen meaning you don't need the wipers at all. If you do use the wipers you are left with a smeary mess. Personally I wouldn't use it on the windscreen as there can be occassions when you have no choice but to use the wipers to clear mud /muck etc, but I use it on all of the other windows and it works a treat, rear screen included.

You might find that Autoglym glass cleaner removes the mess. It did so absolutely perfectly when I was stupid enough to use a very cheap glass cleaning product from a certain orange motor supplies chain.

Hi,
I, like Tom have used Rain x for years without problems.
Might I suggest that you neglected to polish the `screen with a damp cloth after applying the Rain x.

I too have used RainX without any issues you have mentioned and as mentioned by others I hardly need to use the wipers; though the main reason I bought it was for the Boxster rear glass and side windows...

In States, you can buy special RainX wipers, not sure if they are meant to work in conjunction with the RainX product (probably not). Never seen them sold in the UK though...

I also swear by Rain X, having not had the smearing problem - actually it makes me grin seeing the drops of water fly up the windscreen and off (the smallest things keep me happy....). The smearing problem could be due to worn out wiper blades. Not a bad idea to change them every couple of years. I seem to recall German, French and Swedish do the Bosch ones at a reasonable price.

Okay i know what your saying about the smears............

What i do all the time with rainx-ing my cars is follow the instructions with applying and buffing it but i then use a little windscreen degreaser/traffic film remover as a final buff.
Even as your sits now in a few days it will be back to normal without the smears

I use rainX with no probs clean the screen well then apply twice not using to much, splash on a few drops of water and buff of with paper, the faster you go the better it works!

Well SHOUTED Dave, or probably your CAPS LOCK was stuck [;)]

Just a note to add that AutoGlym Fast Glass is also fantastic on removing bird dropping or insect splats... I keep the spray in the Velcro bit of the space saver tyre cover...

I have had a problem with this product once - fix was to clean screen and apply again - I guess I hadn't buffed it properly the first time.

Never had a problem either. The missus goes ape because she's stuck in a 'must use wipers' mentality. However you do need wipers if you're sat in a queue of traffic.

You must clean the screen properly first though, and apply it properly. If you've scratches on the screen (and anything used much on the motorways will have a good set of scratches) you need a chemical cleaner or a jetwash or the scratches keep the dirt in. My old 3.2 had so many scratches it was more frosted than clear, and that was a nightmare to keep clean.

As for blades, I change mine at least once a year, if you use them on an icy windscreen the ice soon rags the edges and they pickup dirt and smear it rather than wipe it. Where I am they use loads of salt on the roads which has a similar effect on the wipers.
