Rally Skid Plates...

The petrol tank on my 1971T is taking a hammering each time i drive into my car-park at my new flat... The latch which the electric gates close onto sticks up about two inches.. but the angle of attack up a ramp then over the latch, is causing a (gut wrenching) scraping noise each time i drive in and out...

The rear of the car glides over it...

Does anyone know of a bolt-on solution , such as a sump-guard/ skid plate?

A midnight raid with an angle grinder may alienate me from my new neighbours...

I was certain Prefab do guards, but they're not going to be cheap. I'm 'adapt' the cause of the problem (with agreement with the other residents, leaseholder - so long as it still works). Presumably the car has been lowered.

Tuthills definitely do them, and Prepfab do a front bolt on kit for £340 plus VAT on there site :-

i have got a proper porsche tank guard on my RS (original sticker/part number) that i pinched off another RS i had over 20 years ago that had been used in competition in Switzerland.
It is very unobtrusive and only protects the tank.
It really doesn't look to difficult to copy for someone a bit handy in metalwork. I have got to remove it next week and I could send you piccies of it if you like.
It certainly has saved me the cost of a replacement tank!

Nick . . .

Would be good if you could post some pic's on here . . . . as I'm sure people would be interested . . . well I would be.
