Rather shiny dash top?

Friend commented yesterday that he thought the top horizontal area above my dashboard running full width into windscreen and the door top caps are unusually shiny (as though someonehas put a lot of Armourol on) and that he thought it may have been laquered by a previous owner. They are shiny but I've always assumed it was supposed to be that way. Has anyone come across this before ie is it possibly original or....?
Tks

Piers,

I replaced my dash top a couple of years ago with a new 993 part I picked up at the Husbourne Crawley Autojumble and I wouldn't describe it as shiny. It's more like a satin-type finish (using a paint term) but definitely not gloss.

Hi Dave, so the 993 and 964 share same part? Was 993 replacement shinier than original 964 part?

Correct - the two are the same. I don't recall there being a huge difference in their appearance to be honest. My original had a big shiny bump over the top of the instruments where some fool had obviously planted something like a radar detector or similar and managed to do some damage to the underlying base when he removed it. It was bugging me for ages but at £1,000+ for a new one I was in no rush to replace it - until I found the 993 part at HC for £75!!!

Regards

Dave
