Had an annoying rattle for some time at the rear of my Cayman and spent the afternoon with it on ramps to sort it out. Some of heat shield fixings has corroded and shield very loose in places. Refixing it with oversized washers and an anti corrosion compound fixed it. Felt like a new car and I should have done it ages ago. Whilst underneath I noticed a metal wheel near the gearbox with a steel cable attached. There was a lot of end float on this wheel and I am sure it contributed to the noise. Does anyone know if this is normal - can I take up this end float with a shim ? Thanks.
