hi everyone just a quick question i have had my boxster for 8 months now and it always has had a rattle upon start, untill its warmed up.
is this normal ???
the noise is coming from the cat i think ???
any help allways appreciated
kind regards Anders

Could easily be the heat shields - that's the dull grey aluminium sheeting that looks like old carpet underlay! Quite common for some of the screws to rust away resulting in a rattle. Worth checking that first before you worry about the exhaust.

I'm going to agree and disagree with spyderman [;)]

It is probably the heatshields, but not the aluminium square pattern stuff. It is likely to be the shields above the cats - (3 fixing sets each). The fixings corrode, but the shield can usually be re-used.

I had the same problem and Porsche Reading diagnosed this as the bolts/brackets holding the cat. heatshield in place. £150 later it was fixed. The other possible cause is the exhaust tail pipes - the bracket on mine had broken and was rattling - again about £150 buys you a replacement and it is easy to fit yourself. Hope this helps.

If you can do it yourself (It's not difficult, just fiddly) then the sets of bolt/washer/clip are about £5 each. You probably won't need all 6 sets - I've done mine twice and I needed 2 on one side, 1 on the other on both occasions.

thank you all again will fix this small problem asap i am realy good with a spanner so should be easy but thanks to everyone ass always
regards anders

I FOUND THE BEST TOOL FOR THE JOB WAS A MULTI FUNCTION DUMPY SREW DRIVER AS IT HAS THE EXACT SIZE FOR THE NUTS
WHICH ARE TWIST LOCK, ONE TURN AND THEIR FIXED, A LITTLE FIDDLY IF IT'S THE ONE ON THE TOP REAR OF THE SHIELD
