Rattle/rumble

I have been experiencing a very annoying rattle/rumble which appears to be coming from behind the passenger seat in my 05 Boxster S. I took it into the OPC earlier in the year and they replaced part of the suspension and it made no difference so I am reluctant to return (although I did complain and got 50% back!) The noise has deteriorated during the year but is not so noticeable with the top down. I have two thoughts on the problem - roof mechanism and hi fi (BOSE fitted). Has anyone had any similar problems?

If its not so noticeable with the roof down the i wonder whether its a broken hood tension cable on the passenger side, as roof down this would be cushioned by the roof itself). Could be the stops on the clamshell too.

lower the roof until the clamshell cover is in the most open position and have a look inside the recess, check the inner roof area for any loose cables or connectors. Whilst there check the polystyrene drain funnels for debris and clean out.

Another option might be a loose engine inspection cover - worth a lookalthough the roof needs to be in service position (see handbook). Take the cover off and check your power steering fluid whilst you are at it, and wonder at the dusty nature of your engine
