Rattles

reevers

New member
I have recently purchased a 99, 996 C2 Tiptronic. I am suprised at the number of rattles coming from the areas around the windscreen and the sunroof.

As a new Porsche Owner I would appreciate any advice. Is this common and any explanation why this would be happening and remedies to resolve the problems??

I will of course be returning the car back to the Official Porsche Dealer, but would would appreciate other owners views before getting the Dealer's opinion!

Regards

My 03 Boxster started out with no rattles and then developed an awfully annoying squeak/rattle from around both doors. It was eventually diagnosed as "shiny door seals" by the OPC. I knew it was the seals squeaking and I had tried everything to clean/lubricate them but nothing worked. The OPC replaced them under warrantly and the squeaking went away.

All Boxsters seem to have rattles when the hood is up ,but dissapear when hood is down.As to your question have heard this complaint on the 993 as to windscreen .I would take it back to the OPC and get them to fix it under warranty and do not except any excuses till it is to your satisfaction, after all that is why you paid the dealer price so you had complete peace of mind .

Slight rattles, creaks and squeaks are not at all uncommon in 996s.

I'm on my second, the sunroof makes a clicking noise and there is a rattle which I believe is eminating from somewhere in the dash, but I haven't so far located the source.

Providing the noise isn't too distracting, I wouldn't bother too much as if you fix one, another two are sure to develop [:D]

After its first service my Boxster squeaked when the hood was down and rattled when it was up so took it back to my OPC and they sorted it out by putting soft pads in some areas of the hood (they are not noticeable). Now I have no squeaks or rattles and it feels solid.

I had more and more squeaks coming from the metal cover which lifts to let the roof in then closes on top of it. The Glasgow OPC adjusted and greased it and it is nearly completely silent now. It happened when the roof was up or down in the end. With the Hardtop on it was very noisy... Its a common problem I was told.
