Just picked up a 2002 996 tiptronic Turbo yesterday i am over the moon with it.My previous car was a 996 Carrera 4s.My question is what do you consider as a reasonable average mpg it was showing 14mpg that was on a motorway driving fairly steady.I know you do not buy these cars for economy but do you think this is high or the norm i was expecting it to be more thirsty than my C4s which use to average about 23 to 25,i did think i wouls get either the high teens or low twentys when driving on Motorways around 70 with the occasional blast.
Any input and thoughts will be gratefully recieved

Congrats. A fantastic motor and you won't be disappointed.
I have reset the trip on mine and on a run of say 50 miles I'm gettng between 24-27. Those blasts will effect that though. IMHO I'd sign up with the club. This forum is invaluable and there are some cracking people on here. This I promise you will be a very good Easter present. Steve

Many thanks for your kind imput, but what is this IMHO forum you mention about sorry to be so dense
Kind regards Brian

Sorry. In my honest opinionm I can see you are just a guest. Through signing up you gain from a range of benefits an you will be able to gain access to other areas which are great. Not to mention the card, the added benefits, and the monthly magazine. Take a look on the main page for actual prices. Hope that helps?

I do not know as to why it shows i am a guest i am in fact a fully paid up member of the R18 branch of the club perhaps someone can put me right how to rectify this.

A quick post on this thread below should soon fix it![;)]

I always thought it was In My Humble Opinion..... Does that make me humble, not honest? [:)]

And I get about 20-22mpg in a mix of (mostly) cross-town commuting and a bit of spirited driving when possible. On a motorway cruise I can get 28-29mpg, but it is so boring at the speed required to achieve that, it is generally more like 24-25mpg. Mine is a Tiptronic, of course, so will be lower than a manual by a couple of mpg.

Congratulations Brian - it's customary to post pictures of a new beast! You'll have to change your usename now too!!

My C2 gets nearly 30mpg if I cruise in 6th, obviously if it gets some beans it will drop.

On the whole I probably get somewhere in the low 20's.

My C2 cab does 21.7 pretty much every tankful, based on city commuting. On a run 26 to 27. Cruising over 80 will give over 30 mph.

I have never seen anything as low as 14 so it sounds like you have something that needs checking.

Good luck with it.

My c2 normally gets 25-27 however if i cruise at 90 it goes up tp about 30, obviously im all for saving the environment by using less fuel :)

I have monitored my 996 C4S Tiptronic for the last 10 months averaging 26 MPG overall, sorts of distances and speed.
Equates at todays price for super unleaded over this period at around £0.21/mile, however the last 2 fill ups have made the average £0.23/mile!
Sod it lifes too short make the most of it, its not a practice enjoy it whilst you can - I know!

I have found if i use regular then i get a lower mpg. It works out cheaper to go for premium even tho i pay more. Its quite strange.

That's because you should be using Super Unleaded all the time. The DME is tuned for 98 RON. 95 RON is OK when you have to, but as you have found, you won't get the best consumption or performance.
