Re Map ECU

Now then having a V6 and suffering more than a bit of mid range punch (& economy by the look of it) has any one had any experience of or can reccommend a company that can re map the V6 to improve both.....or am I just wasting my time?

I did find a company called Evolve Automotive who say with just a remap of the ecu there's 18 / 20 bhp &30N/m increase with an improvement in economy, for £600. I know that most mappers give great return on turbos but not sure whether this type of tuning would be worth it. Is there another route to take perhaps?

Any advice welcome
Thanks.

give Weltmeister (Silverstone) a call - they are a Revo centre, and will give you honest advice as to whether you will get any suitable gains.
They can also give your car a time limited code so you can experience about 80% of the improvements that can be achieved - no pressure to buy afterwards.
TBH, non turbo cars don't benefit that much from ECU remapping.
You may be able to feel the difference, but only you can decide whether its worth the outlay.

Hi David.. that wouldnt be the old WRC guys at Silverstone would it? .Alan & Chris, who have re started on their own (had my scoob with them on a rolling road session)

Well spoke to Chris at Weltmeister and yes it is the same place I had my Impreza done. Very knowledgable guy and great advice.

The general view is that a re map would give somewhere between 10 - 20% gain so maybe 275 to 300 bhp but more importantly increase in torque and improved flexibility in driveability. The other benefit of this, provided of course that you dont use that extra, is a small increase in mpg when touring [;)] which should please as thats what I'm going to be using it for.

He was saying that having carried this out on a V6 previously, the owner, who was going to sell to get a V8 decided to keep the car as the difference between the two in drivability was very little at the end of the day. Not saying that can turn a V6 into a V8 but can close the gap a bit between them.

I'll let you know how it goes

Well bit of a delay in the re map, now due to happen this Monday coming.

Held up as had some issues with the car resulting in the dealer changing all coil packs and combination sensor under warranty... took the opertunity of getting the plugs repalced as well, interesting enough the MPG has now improved, showing an overall of 21.5....better than the 18 a while ago..... lets see what Monday brings?

re map done today, original figure of 251.2 bhp now running 292.3bhp & a much flatter torque curve. Noticable improvement in driveability, much smoother and better power delivery. Feels very similar to the 3.6 loan KN in sport mode I had last week, but nowhere near the cost.... [:D]

That's quite a power hike! Interested to see what, if anything, happens to the fuel consumption.

Sor far haven't noticed a change in the comsumption... dash readout still shows av 21.5mpg since re set after mapping and thats over 3 tanks. but have been 'using' the extra. Off to the seaside at the weekend so will see what it does on a steady run.

Can anyone recommend a place to do the similar things in Northwest region .
thank you (cayenne v6)

Give Chris at Weltmeister a call, although they are based at Silverstone I think one of the guys travels down from further North. They may also know someone?? 08709 911 798.... or better still come down and watch a days racing, have your car mapped while your there... free carparking [:D]

Well the trip from Cambridge to West Sussex was good me driving ( heavy foot) mixed roads 20mpg..... wife drove back got 24.9 mpg mighty impressed with that considering the pace on the return journey!!

Hi Alscoob,

24.9 mpg that is incredible.

So did you get the remap done in weltmeister or evolve automotive. Do you also say that there is a definite difference in terms of the car performace , more power, more smooth.
thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

I was really please with the mpg in saying that it was mainly motorway, but still much better than it was.

There is a noticable difference, its not vast but does in my opinion make it a much better car to drive. It just gives it that little bit more to make it smoother and enjoyable.

Had the 3.6 as loan car while this was in for work and that by comparason seems crude and rough!

Had the re map done by Chris at Weltmeister give him a call he's happy to chat with you about it...but it might all get a bit too technical to understand it all!!

Cheers
Allen

Alscoob if you don't mind me asking how much was the re-map and how long did it take - also in the northwest and would like this done..

The last place I enquired some time ago told me it wasn't worth doing - can't remember who that was..

I was charged £499 and it took about 3 hrs and included the rolling road before and after. If I can get the scanner working, I'll post up the dyno results.
