Hi,

Is it possible to remove the rev counter, how ?, i have a few blubs need replacing.

People i chat to tell me they get around 16-20 mpg, in mine the computer says approx 11.5 - never really changes but occasionally might go to 12, it appears to use a lot of petrol around town, is there anything i might be able to check myself, or is there anything around the engine i could of distrurbed when cleaning that could cause a surge in fuel.

Thanks in advance.

I am sure the guages in the 993 are the same as in the 964 in which case what you need is a little patience---basically the guages have an Interference with the dash. Therefore, you need to apply gentle prising pressure around the sides by inserting a thin object--small screwdriver/knife under the bezels, taking care not to damage the dashboard or the guages. Some do recommend putting a cloth between the implement that you are prising with and the dashboard. The process will take a couple of minutes if you apply pressure gently from a number of angles.

Someone I am sure will correct me if there is a difference.

In terms of fuel consumption---mine does 25 to 30 on the road on the track I will get about 12--I have never driven the car in town so I can't comment---when was the car last services, new air filter, plugs, etc?

Hi,

Will try what you say with the gauges and see what happens, as for the last service, am unsure but think it was about 3k miles ago.

It is sometimes easier to remove the clock first then push the speedo and rev counter from behind.

You might need to remove the steering wheel cowling as you have the OBC. Rev counters with the OBC seem to be a bit deeper and need a bitr of extra space before they will come out.

With regards to MPG, I average between 17 and 18 round town, and have had up to 30 on a run up to Sheffield (see pic)!

You should try the age old solution which is wear rubber gloves which give you the grip to remove by twisting and pulling. Regarding your fuel consumption I would first do the age old method of checking the mileage by filling up recording the speedo mileage and then again when refilling and work out manually. If the mpg is accurate I would suspect that you have a problem that needs looking into

Hi Nick, I do a lot of town miles and like to put my foot down, when I got my C4 I was getting 26mpg with a very cautious right foot, now I had it three years and for the past two and half years my average is 16 to 17 mpg, and down to 12 mpg in the winter.

Hi David,

Thats good to know, my car had a 12k service at 102k, now mileage is almost 108k, when i bought the 993 approx 2 weeks ago the computer showed just over 16 mpg, but gradually its gone down to 11 ish and stayed there, rarely might go to 12.

Nick.
