Re-Spray

Was thinking of selling my SC for a 3.2 but have decided for what it would cost to change and again buying into the unknown i have decided it better the devil you know. Had my car inspected yesterday by a very respectacble paint guy who does nothing but 911's. Glad to say no nasty surprises or rust anywhere the only thing that lets it down is a poor re-spray done over the years. So thinking of treating her to a full re-spray. This guy i knew would be expensive but i valued his opinion but i was quoted in the region of 7k. Does anybody know of a decent place in the North West. I could justify 3-4k. Thanks.

7K!? I don't know where people get these figures from, It's a bloody car not a battleship. 3k would be absolute max for me including glass out and great attention to detail, Don't be surprised if you find rust once you start stripping it. If you currently have no overspraying of trim on your car treat it to a machine polish before you go for a respray, you just might be able to live with that and save youself a packet.

Seven bloody grand- did you smell alcohol in the air?!

He's having a larf - absolute tops would be three - four with a bit of bodywork but three paint and prep only

Well I must admit i almost fell over. I am pretty convinced there is no rust as we pretty much pulled the car to pieces yesterday. In fact i would be willing to travel for a good job.

Take it to Tuthills for paint - their guy very good, ask Highfield.

When you see paint this good in the nooks and crannies you know they're not too shabby - they do use a mop afterwards but very few left who don't.

Thanks John. Didnt get the Pics. Where are they based? Have also got a good mate of mine with an SC which is going on the scuttle/wing joints so also looking for a re-paint. Thanks for your advice guys. Love the battleship comment Bones. LOL.

Incidentally if Iwas ever to have a complete resparay I would go the old fashioned route of paint only , no laquer, in my opinion it polishes better and you can 'work' on the paint to get a better depth of shine a laquered finish doesn't come close.

Their website is here buddy - J11 of the M40, not the North West but there are trains back up there from here

Can you really not see the pics, can see them OK myself

No for some reason can't seem to upload them. Must be my system here at work. M40 not to bad for me. Thanks John.

hi porkersc, ive taken my 79 sc to a mates bodyshop in bury, its been there for 3 months now and will be finished next tuesday.
luckerly he has let me do a lot of the work myself, like stripping it down and building it back up,so this will keep the cost down. they dont specialise in any particular cars, but their work is exellent. as for cost for havin your car done, i think the more parts they distmantle the more labour cost rises. my car didnt look that bad before i started, body looked sound, but had poor paint job long time ago, but be aware, when i started stripping it down, windscreens out, doors off, bonnet & boot lid off, it exposed small rust areas that i didnt know was there, also ive found a lot off the rubber seals perish when you remove them, (sorry ramblin on a bit)
so mate be aware that if you have a respray you might have to replace seals everywhere which will up the cost.
if you want me to send pics to your e-mail with details of where i had it done, i will.
good luck anyway

Hi Gaz, If you could send us the pics then that would be great would really appreciate that. As mentioned before my mate also has an SC which needs repairs to the scuttle and tops of the wings. He is a qualified technician so would he be able to do the stripping and re-building on his car like you?
