Readings from Dials

Hi,

Apart from the rev and speedo on my dials I have the Battery, temp and oil pressue.

My battery seems to sit just below 14, my temp is back down to 80 (I presume this is where it should be) after I serviced my rads last week and fitted mesh etc. My oil pressue varies but seems to sit around 5 (bar?) when I'm coasting. Is this normal? The oil pressue intrigues me the most, what should I be able to glean from it? Does it go down when I floor it etc? Could it show a potential problem etc.

Just curious....

oil pressure shouldn't drop when accelerating .... in very basic terms , the faster the engine spins, the quicker the oil gets pumped around th eengine the greater the oil pressure ........ the pressure should drop as the engine revs fall towards tick over

If the oil pressure is reading low when at say 5000rpm then there is something amiss

My battery sits at 10.5, but I've never had a problem with it. I think the battery guage on a 996 is a bit of a best guess!

Do you have a digital multimeter you could use to check the battery voltage?

The dash meter should show (nominally) 12v with engine off, and 14v when running. 10.5 seems low, and I think the dash gauges are reasonably accurate. Worth checking it out before winter really sets in.

Thanks Richard. The multimter shows just over 12v with the engine off. I have the CTEK fitted when the car is in the garage (I don't drive the car in the rain so it spends most of it's time in the garage!). I think I just have a dodgy voltmeter guage.
