i am looking for an early Boxter as near to concours condition as i can find to use as a second car
i may use it every day on a short 3 mile comute and dont intend doing more than 5000 a year
what is the REAL cost of running this car going to be?
i have heard scare stories of 2000 a year!

ps i hope to spend under 9k on the purchase

hi , bought a mint 3.2s 50k full porsche main dealer service,
month 1. breakdown, new alternator, £ 800, main dealer rip off big mistake
month 2. bought AA breakdown cover, £70 on top of standard cover
month 3. MAF SENSOR £382 jzmach excellent service, paid for by AA cover, so net cost, £25 excess,
month 4. rear wheel bearing, £150, local garage, including £40, bearing EUROCARPARTS.
that all the negatives,
month 1. got to know car, great on twistys BIG SMILE[:)][:)][:)][:)]
month 2. top down first time, pushed car bit harder BIGGER SMILE [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]
month 3.track day WOW! realised the porsche hype, not hype at all, great car BIGGER SMILE [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]
all boxsters seem to suffer from same little problem, and basically not much difference between, new and older models,
things ware out, so older cars may need various bit replaced, but when you drive it the way it meant to be driven, everything is worth it,
it a drivers car, so if you want to just put top down and pose around, get a mx5,
if you want to SMILE everytime you drive the car, go get one,

A good check prior to purchase is essential.

Even so there are some known problems that might just cost you, --- so you might insure, or take a chance.

I would talk to Baz at Hartech --- a very good way to go.

As the owner of a year 2000 2.7 I would say there is a lot of mystique surrounding these cars. I have owned a 944 in the past and they were quite innovative for their time. However, the Boxster has technology that is reasonably normal and whilst they have their issues, most cars do you just don't hear about them on everyday cars as much. If you are willing to do some work yourself things are reasonably conventional just in different places.

Hi Pacemaker 1000

I would budget £200-£300 inclusive of service at independent. If you are only using it for short commute and occasional use then I will be surprised if you spend > £200 per year apart from service ! They can be suprisingly economical to run (older models serviced at independent), but tyres may add to running costs depending on how much fun you need regularly !

BTW I am contemplating selling mine as I used it for commuting but having moved jobs it only sees occasional use now. It has only 31k on the clock so really feels fresh. Just had an OPC check up on it and no major issues were identified. Very original except for Litronic, Porsche Bose rear speaker pack, and sports exhaust - well you just have to ! Also comes as standard with the desirable factory fitted MO30 sports suspension and Traction control. Drop me a line if interested.

MY 99 2.5.
