I've read that it is very big - dwarfs a 997 and makes a Cayenne look compact [:-]

It looks dam awefull,the designer clearly dropped a cayenne on top of a cayenne and look what turned out,and the cayenne is not a good looker to start with.
I wonder what the depreciation will be on these

I agree with Paul. It looks like a bent banana from the side. I hope it looks better in the flesh.

I am holding out for just a little longer to see one in the flesh.

If it looks like it does in the photo, I might just keep my 911 and buy a Maserati as well.

At least I can use the Porsche when the Maserati breaks down and I wont have a pig ugly (and expensive) car sitting on my drive when not in use!

god knows why all porsches have to look like a mutant 911 these days, the 92/44 and 928 did ok without the 'corporate family' look.

I'm beginning to like this new car.

Everyone likes to jump on the band wagon and go on about how fugly the cayenne is, etc but the sales figures suggest otherwise.

Pricing is too high though in the current financial environment.

I agree, it's starting to grow on me. OK it's not as attractive as the Aston, but I certainly prefer it to the Quatroporte. I've seen a few of these over the past weeks and I think with the small headlights and that rediculous grill it looks like a wide-mouth frog - in fact i'd go as far to say it is ugly.

I also quite like the fact that the entire Porsche range contains similar styling cue's - it is a family of cars afterall and family's though don't look the same, do look similar. Lamborghini don't seem to attract any critisism for the fact the Gallardo looks almost the same as a Merciellago but a bit smaller. The only critisism I have about the Panamera is the rear does look a bit bulbous from some angles - but so was the Renault Alpina GTV and I think that was a stunning looking car so I guess it will grow on me.

Apparently the Panamera has won an award already - 'Towing Car of the Year', or something along those lines. Apparently you can spec an electrically retractable towing arm. Perfect for towing your GT3 to track days.

Well, historically most car models have a limited lifespan, successful or not, so thats pretty irrelevant.

I'd debate wether sales figures bear much relation to the aesthetic qualities of a vehicle, or for that matter wether its a 'bandwagon' to consider the Cayenne ugly.

I think car familes that share styling cues can look good (EG BMW E30/E32/E34), but stretching a 911 to be twice as tall, or 1/5 times a long doesnt really work.

I really don't think they tried to make the Panamera look like a 911 at all. It is that shape because it has to be. What other shape could it possibly be if you wanted to design a large, spacious 4-door car with a decent sized boot, providing adequate rear crash protection while at the same time being acceptably aerodynamic to provide high speed stability and minimise wind noise. You try getting out a piece of paper and a pencil and come up with a different shape or configuration without giving the rear passengers zero head-room or completely ruining the aerodynamics or making the car even longer.

give a million monkeys a million typewriters and they'd come up with a million 4 seaters that look lees like a 911 than the panamera.

anyone can photoshop out the midseaction and end up with a car that looks just like a 911.
