i got told today i dont own a real porsche ..........because my engine is in the front and its water cooled...........cheeky or what![][&o]

If it was a non-porsche owner, then smile politely and tell them it's a Porsche.

If it's a 911 owner, tell them you'll let them follow you round a track - whoever spins first buys the beers!

The would suggest that Porsche hasn't made a "real" Porsche since they stopped producing the 993.

A 944 certainly isn't a 911, but then that is to its advantage in my eyes. There are parts that have Audi stamped on them but then bits of Aston Martins have Ford stamped on them, who cares. If Audi made the best gearbox at that time why not use it?

I had a similar experience a couple of months ago - my 13 year old daughter comes in one night asking if our 944s2cab was a real porsche!
Turns out the dad of one of her friends had made a point of telling her that i wasn't a real porsche because it had a 2l vw /audi van engine in it!
Can't wait to see him to point out his obvious lack of knowledge and ignorance.

Hi John, didnt realize the gearbox was Audi, Bert once told me my automatic gear box is Mercedes, Presumably Porsche outsourced from a variety of manufacturers, I think a lot of current gearboxes are Mercedes and have their emblem on them, do Porsche make any gearboxes? Anyone know if the automatic box is still in production at Merc?

People say the same about boxsters too. Probably 'cos they get a reaction [8|]

I've had a few comments of this ilk which receive a grin and a "yeah that's right" reply.

A colleague parked his car next to my 944 at work, when we were leaving work he pointed to my car and said "personally I prefer the 911", and got into his Astra van ![:D]

Mines not real either.
But then neither is the 959 or the GT1, since they both used some water cooling.
Also the new racing car for LMP2 is not real.

It's all a load of rubbish. If was designed, engineered and built by Porsche, then it is a Porsche.
They protect their brand, and the badge is not put on the cars just for something to do.

The best comment i got was that " it was a poor mans porsche and would probably fall apart the second i hit 60 mph! ", I chuckled, told him to get in my car and took him for a spin!? He now will not shut up about my porsche and is well on his way to buying a 928. You can't teach them!

I got that a while ago, I was going to defend the car, explain to the bloke it's as Porsche as any of them but then he said,

" Yeah it's just an old Beetle in drag, innit?".

I was momentarily speachless at his stupidity, but then finally managed to say the first word that popped into my head. Which was t**t.

I have had the same sort of comments aimed at my Boxster, you know, "It's not a 911" or "It's a poor mans' Porsche", but I have decided to just smile and walk away with dignity.

Strange that it seesm that it is only non-Porsche drivers and owners who say stupid things like that.

Jealousy or what? An inferiroity complex being exhibited?

I never get any comments like this - what am I doing wrong?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The "poor man's Porsche" is the only one worth dignifying, with a "Of course. Which Porsche is it you drive?"[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Fen

I really would lose a lot of dignity if I broke into a chorus of , "If I was a rich man" so I suppose that it is better to walk away.[:D]

Once, I was filling up Thunderbird 3 at the local Esso when a small boy runs up and says "Nice Ferrari, mister!". "It's not a F... Thanks, kid!" [:D][:D][:D]

Driving in the Boxster through Arnage a couple of years ago (during the Le Mans week), a kid old enough to know better pointed at the car and went "FERRARI!".
You'd think with all the exotica they are exposed to year after year he would be able to tell the difference...
