Real-time Traffic Information via Online Services

I have a 991 GTS built Dec 2015 with the On-line services option. When paired with a smartphone running the Aha app, one is supposed to get the current traffic density displayed in colour on the map shown on the PCM - and indeed I do. However, I only get this for roads located in the very south-east of the country - i.e. east of a line drawn from Portsmouth to Ipswich. No traffic data is shown for the M1, A1M, M40, M4, M3 or for any other parts of the country, including major cites, other than, oddly, a couple of miles of the A507 in Bedfordshire leading to Millbrook.

A couple of screenshots are attached. The roads bordered in green show the extent of the coverage. As your can see, it's very limited.

I get the same results using different iPhones on separate networks.

I took the car to the OPC for a couple of issues, including this one and they pronounced it cured. I should have checked there and then because it's still not working properly.

My questions to fellow members are; Has anyone managed to get realtime traffic information working for other parts of the country? If you have, in what area of the country? Alternatively, I'd be interested to learn if you are getting the same limited results as I am. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm having the same issue, referred to OPC and waiting for a response. Let me know if you get anywhere and I'll keep you informed on what the OPC tells me.

Thanks. Car is going in to OPC for a couple of days at the end of this month to get this sorted. Update to follow.

I don't know how it works! Do you need the separate SIM or just plug in your iPhone. Unfortunately the tech is so new they didn't really know how it worked in the Porsche centre when I picked up the car. So I've never really been given a full demo, I intend on visiting to find out if they are more informed nowadays. I also find a lot of the Apple car play images aren't the same as those on YouTube. For instance I don't see the radio station logos or album covers. I also note when using the apple car play that the tracks don't then show on the dial in the instrument cluster, only on the PCM.

I'd be interested to set up the travel info as you have and then I'll let you know if I experience the same problem.

Neil, I see you've got a 991.2 - my issue is with a 991.1. I'm believe that there is a considerable difference between the two models relating to how certain features of the PCM work. Best speak with your dealer.

All I can say is that with the 991.1 you need an iPhone loaded with the Aha app (here:https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/aha-radio/id355829417?mt=8), the phone plugged into the car via USB and have the On-Line Services option included in the build. This then displays traffic information when viewing maps - which should be for the whole country rather than just the very south-east.

Hello Monochrome, thanks for your feedback, I didn't realise you had a Gen 1 and you're right there are indeed many differences with the PCM.

Having had another go at the manual last night, I do believe it's a pre-requisite to have a separate SIM plugged into the PCM, but as you say I'll head off to the dealership for more advice.

Thanks again and best of luck sorting yours.

Did you ever get this fixed, I've finally got RTTI working with v4.76 and 2019 maps and mine is doing this as well.

No :(
My problem was with a 991.1 and it's still a problem. I've found a work around - some random addresses unlock traffic info for certain areas of the country. For example, I travel between Watford and Bedford a lot but if I put either address in, no traffic info. But if I put the address in for Silverstone, traffic info appears for my Bedford-Watford route even though it doesn't pass through Silverstone. The 991.1 gets the traffic info from Aha Radio via a plugged in iPhone.

I also have a 991.2 with the newer PCM and that works flawlessly. It gets its traffic data via something other than Aha Radio.

Over the years I have had similar problems, which seemed random. Originally in a 981 Cayman and then a Macan I would occasionally get the same symptoms but then it would come back to normal, within a couple of days. My (current) 991.2 does not seem to have the same problem, but I probably haven't done enough miles in the 10 months I have had it, to be sure. I suspected it was more to do with the transmission side of things, rather than anything in the car.
