Reality Check

I did the club trackday at Goodwood on Monday. Great weather, great track, smooth organisation from Steve and his team.
Having been round Goodwood a fair number of times, I seem to have reached a plateau. I'm reasonably quick, the car is comfortable, I'm comfortable, but I'm not getting any quicker. Perhaps at the age of 74 it's time to admit to myself that I'm not going to be the next Lewis Hamilton.

I have a confession to make, though. Having specifically chosen a manual car because it was more involving and I knew how to heel and toe, I have become seduced by the Autoblip feature in Sport Chrono. It is just so perfect!

Good man, Alan I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to think I'll still be doing trackdays at 74, manual box or not.

We are never too late to learn, have you had tuition recently?

I think we all get to a point where we realize we're not able to push ourselves any faster. Once we realize that we also realize that it doesn't really matter....what matters is going out there and enjoying it. [:)]

I am way slower than I used to be at only 47, I seem to bottle it inside, I am not sure why, cost of the car, age, I have no idea I am just slower or my balls have shrunk ;-(

As others have said, I can only hope to be driving on a track at 74, ;-)

auto blip is great on track imo, it def helps you get the most out of braking, but still having that feeling of using both arms and both legs and getting a sweat on :)

A more driving focused geo might help you inside, I know it helps me knowing I am not just driving round the oem unsteering mess the cars come with.

It sounds like you guys should be considering National concours entry!

I reckon you could manage a quick dash to the podium to collect your trophies.[;)]

Plan B ... my 2p ...

Carefully select the biggest passenger that you can find and invite them for a passenger ride.

Build up your speed to that where your brain says "no faster" --- and remember how the car feels.

Ditch your willing victim, and drive to the feeling --- you should be going faster !!
