rear anti roll bar bush replacement

Hi,

As above, I tried to replace the rear antiroll bar bushes tonight, which I thought would be a 1/2 hour task but so far I have sheared off 2 bolts! Had soaked then in wd40 overnight but they were still seized solid. I have now quit for the evening to rethink my plan.

Has anyone experienced this before and had any success with removing the sheared off bolt. It looks like the bolt threads directly into the aluminuim crossmember. Does the crossmember have inserts or helicoils or do the bolts thread straight into the aluminium?

Need to buy some new bolts before I have another go...

So much for a simple job..

The bolts go straight into the aluminum cross member and there is no insert. Pity about the complication as it really was a half hour job both sides. You probably should drill them out and get a Wurth or Helicoil insert fitted. The bolts only torque to 25nm.

thanks.

I hope to be able to remove with a stud extractor and the thread wil be ok to re-use if not I will have to helicoil.

Not sure the bushes will cure the knocking noise anyway but thought it would be a the easiest and cheapest place to start... Wrong!!!!

I did the same thing on mine a year or two back.

I luckily still had about 2 or 3mm of bolt poking out. Ended up buying a little gas blowtorch from a hardware shop for about €40 and used it to heat up the area and then grabbed it with a set of lock grip pliers and it screwed out fairly easily. I was surprised at how easily it came out in the end as thought I had a huge job on my hands.
