Rear brake hoses

Had a bit of a recce of the rear brake hoses the other day and before I embark on the dismantiling job I just want to be sure what to expect. To remove them it seems that there is some sort of spring plate that needs to be removed to free up the joint with the hard pipe? Also the nuts look a bit corroded so do the nuts unscrew pretty easily?

Cheers.

Hi Scott,

I've just replaced the rear hoses on my S2 twice [&:] Once to fit a standard rubber set (from ECP) and then to fit a pair of stainless braided lines.

The spring plates should pull off the trailing arms. I was able to grab the end of the plate with a pair of pliers and wiggle it to free any corrosion. I also found putting a flat screwdriver in between the plate and the pipe gave some extra leverage. I got new spring plates (4) from Nottingham OPC - they were only cheap.

You'll need some pipe spanners 17mm and 11mm (from memory) to make sure you get a good grip on the nuts and don't round them. You might just get away with the 11mm though. I bought them individually from Halfords.

In preparation start spraying something like plus gas over the corroded nuts.

Here's a picture of what mine looked like.

Hope this helps

Thanks Phil, that does help. I'm also replacing with SS braided hoses. I'll invest is some of those ring spanners to make sure I don't strip the nut on the hard pipe side.
