Rear Bumper - Heat Insulation

Just wondering if the rear taillight unit heat insulation is necessary?

Its causing a major water trap and corrosion.

Would appreciate any comments,

George

Mine too is messy but I found recently when I took the exhaust off that I could get in there and tidy it up a bit by fitting repair washers where the shielding had worn away around the bolts that hold it on.

It gets extremely hot around there so I would think that retaining the shielding is vital to stop the plastic bumpers melting.

Steve, I have to agree there is a heat problem, but would the exhaust be better with an insulated wrap/bandage?
A 3.2 Carrera had none of it from memory - but perhaps that is an advantage of non-plastic bumpers. Convert to Impacts?

IS the heat shielding replaceable ? I had a look at mine when up on ramps and its flaking away and missing in parts. Can you replace this shielding on its own ?

W1tak, I do not plan to put that rubbish back in my car. It may be necessary in Arizona, but I live in Ireland. If the plastic bumpers discolour or distort, there will be an impact bumper 964 here.
I had to replace the bodywork where the rear light unit is fitted on one side. Lucky the lamp holder pressing is available from Porsche.
