rear child seats for993 coupe

could anyone advise on which children's car seats take up as little room as possible in the rear of my 993 coupe. Any info greatly appreciated

Nigel, I've just had the Mamas and Papas Sicura fitted. There is still not a great deal of leg room for my daughter - Sophie seems quite happy to bash the back of the sports seats with her feet though!

It obvioulsy doesn't recline, which means that when she falls asleep her head drops forward a bit, but it does take up very little space and fits neatly into the seat. Not too sure what it is doing to the leather below and behind though!?

Shane - it's odd that Mamas & Papas have a seat to fit. I took my 993 Targa down to my local M&P who told me that they just don't recommend fitting child seats to 'bucket' seats such that are in the back off the 993.

I also spoke to someone from PCT (http://www.pctcars.co.uk/) who told me that the Porsche Zoom (seat base + backrest) would fit a 993. I think the total price for the two parts was around £150 inc VAT but this should last a child until they're about 7 year old (I think)

My daughter is a bit less than the minimum weight for the Porsche Zoom (15kg) but providing the Zoom does fit, this is the option I think I'll go for, but I'll look at the Sicura if it turns out the Zoom doesn't fit.

My daughter who is 3.5 uses a Maxi Cosi Rodi XP in the back which is for age 3.5 - 12 years or 15 - 36kg weight. At some point I will need to get the seat belt extended as she grows bigger. There is not a huge amount of leg room but you won't get that in a 993 with any make of car seat.

They are about £90

Ian.

One other point to add re the Sicura - this was fitted by the Stanmore specialists who didn't recommend using the inertia belts as in their opinion they didn't fully secure the seat. This could be the reason M&P don't recommend fitting any child seat in a bucket seat, because they don't think you can tighten it enough - just a guess.

Anyway, I have a fixed belt that secures the seat that is attached at the original anchor points. You only notice if you look close enough and it's fair to say that the child seat is in their damn tight.
