Rear decal replacement

Bridge944

New member
The "Porsche" decal below the rear number plate needs replacing on my 944, I have a new decal to replace the old script.
What is the best method for removing the old decal?
I have heard that a heat gun / hair drier is a method but is this correct?
How do you avoid damage to the paintwork? - this seems an aggressive treatment of the paintwork

Thats the method I used. Just a hair dryer to warm up the area then I picked at the corner with my finger nail to start it off then it pulled away quite easily. Its a bit fiddly but nothing else.

I have a new decal but haven't fitted it yet. I'm guessing that that will be the trickiest part of all!!!

I'd go with a hot air gun as I don't have a hair dryer. [;)]

All you are looking to do is warm the adhesive up, not burn it off. Don't get the air gun too close and keep checking the panel to make sure it isn't getting too hot.

Im missing abit of the S on the back of mine

im wondering if its worth replacing as it might bug me the more i look at it now ive noticed it.

Now what graphics do you use? ive noticed a fair number of sellers on ebay selling them, im presuming theyre all aftermarket ones.... any dodgy ones out there or are they all ok?

Try the usual guys before e-bay. Last I heard Bert Gear had them for about £24 I think? And - you know what you'll be getting. [8|]

I have used DMB Graphics from Ebay (trades as 1-Stickerboy) for two rear decals now and they are very good. About £14 I think.

It would be safer to go and buy a cheap hair dryer and keep it in the garage.

Heat guns are a bit vicious in comparison.

Cheers,

I know to my cost what a hot air gun can do! Some clown has stuck some naff imitation carbon fibre stone protection stickers ahead of the rear arches on my car. They're quite thick so i whacked the gun to maximum attack. Bad, Bad, Bad...... i started peeling & low & behold a thick layer of paint started coming away! So i'm now moving to plan B; paint them body colour with a layer of paint protection film over the top. Only solution i can think of without respraying the lower half of the car.

Just had delivered a new rear sticker. Not fitted yet but cost was £13.50 delivered & the supplier was recommended by someone on this very forum: http://www.highgatehouse.co.uk/944.htm
