Rear Fogs Not Working

Help please.
I've been bringing my newley aquired 964 up to spec from a lack of use and long period of neglect and thought it was finally ready for an MOT. Now booked for tomorrow morning.
As a last cleaning job today, I took the rear centre reflector and lamp assemblies out and cleaned them up of all the condenstaion and dirt etc. On completion I thought I'd better check all lights are working OK and found the rear fogs are not working. The dash switch lights up when the headlights are switched on, but goes out when pulled to turn on the rear fogs. I presume this is correct to show they aren't working?
I've checked and there is no power at the connector at the back of the reflector assy. The fuse and relay, which are shared by the reverse lights are obviously ok as the reverse lights do work.
Does anyone know if there is a common fault that I can look for? I was going to try to get the the back of the switch in the morning to see if a wire has come adrift, but is there anything else I should be checking?
Thanks,
Bob.

Bob,

I'm pretty sure you'll find that the rear fogs will only come on when you also have the front fogs switched on. Headlights and ignition need to be on too. Worth a check before you start pulling the dash apart.

Dave

Hi Bob,

I agree with Dave, having posted a similar thread on the 993 forum recently, only to discover the reason my rear fog lights were not working was because I had not switched the front ones on first!

Dave and John, many thanks, that's all it was. And the car passed the MOT with flying colours. To celebrate getting it on the road I went driving for a good few hours and love it to bits. I can see my Boxster now has competition!

I just need to sort out the initial throttle opening flat spot, nothing happens, actually the revs drop, with the first 1/4 inch of cable travel.
Dave I guess you'd probably know what was wrong with that as well! I presume there is a sensor somewhere not responding.
Should I have a diagnostic done? Anyone know the best place here in the south that they would recommend?

Now where did I put those keys?

Bob:)

Welcome to 964 ownership from a fellow boxster and 964 owner[:)].

Yes I agree you might have something sticky going on as mine launches itself as soon as I stab on the throttle. If it's not been used for a while it could be something as simple as needing a good blow out. I'd see how it goes for a couple of weeks (of regular use) before spending any money on it.

Bob,

Jon Mitchell has a pretty good reputation. His web site is at http://www.jmgarage.com/.

Your throttle issue could be a sticky air flow sensor - a common problem if the oil has been overfilled in the past.

Dave

So what happens when you take out the front fogs and replace with the brake cooling intakes?

Haven't tried the rear fog since I removed the fronts?

Will it still work?

Yes, just pull the switch as you would normally, it's what I do.

Kevin.
